I'm not doing that for offline splitcreen play. Like, holy shit on Switch you simply pair a second controller, and you can just play. No account funny business at all. As it should be.

I could somewhat understand the PS account, but not having to be linked to a Microsoft one.

Respect yourself and your time a little more. The only defense against enshittification is not giving them your money.

It doesn't bother me. I've got accounts on both. I think cross-platform play makes everything complicated, even when you're not playing cross-platform. They need an account to track your stats and achievements as a player. They didn't code for a generic player. Could be laziness. Could be there was some technical problem and this was the only solution. Not a great solution, but maybe it was the one they knew would work.
