Is that a different view of the game? (Destiny)

I bet it would worsen the game for your friends though. The problem with Halo sized levels is the investment required. These days all the kids are used to mobile games where you don't spend a lot of time doing any one activity. Destiny in a lot of ways appeals to that crowd (not raids) and it's just sort of a mindless thing to do with friends.

That's what checkpoints are for, duh. Point taken though. I would be happy if they had a 4-5 AotCR length missions in the endgame. AotCR could honestly take as long as a raid so why not treat it as such and communicate to the player that they are in for an investment. Give them a new icon on the map or something so the kidz don't get confused. :-)

The closest equivalent to Halo's story missions (in terms of length) are the strikes.

I think it would be interesting to see what a Destiny game would look like where the mainline story is told through the strikes (which would make up the "core" campaign), and then the smaller "story" missions could be used for side quests and stuff like that. Which is kinda the opposite of how they work now. The strikes in D1 are mostly little off-shoots from the main plot. I started a new character just before RoI shipped, and have been slowly making my way through the entirety of Destiny. With the new quest system, there are several strikes that are left out entirely. You could easily miss them if you're not being thorough about going through all the mission markers on your map. It might be cool to see the strikes brought into the foreground a bit more.
