I've never experienced what you've described in the endgame. I play a lot, but I just got to 400 this week. Keep in mind that this was a passive goal rather than an active goal for me. It was cool to get there, but I didn't need to get there to start having fun. I enjoy the strikes and the playlists have variations each week to make them feel different. I've never needed to grind for a high-impact god-roll thingamajig. RNG generates some cool guns that I've really enjoyed, but I don't think I've ever had a god-roll. I'm not bad at the game either. I'm certainly not the best, but I can hold my own. If I'm going to chase anything, it's going to be about aesthetics.

I know you were using a bit of hyperbole, but if I ever started using the adjectives that you use to describe Destiny, I would hope that Rellekh would delete the game off my console. Seriously. This goes for almost any activity in life. If it feeds such a negative cycle of feedback for you, it isn't going to stay isolated to your gaming. It will bleed over into other parts of your life and that isn't worth it. This is not an isolated rant for you and it reads like a cry for help. If walking away sounds like too big of a step, try taking a break for a month or two.

Anyway, point your pals towards Borderlands 2.

They came from playing Borderlands (and a lot of other big name games out there)...

They are just about to hit the endgame, but I highly doubt they will ever grind on the end-game. My point is that they will probably play all of the content and then move on thinking this was the best co-op game they've played.

Man, I really blew it with my post to make everyone worry so much about my mental health. I don't really play that much at all right now, simply because I do stop when it stops being fun. My point was that, barring the endgame grind, destiny is a good game. The fact that your friends can play today's destiny instead of two years ago's destiny is probably a dramatic increase in the fun they're having, and if they don't feel the need to raid three times a week for months on end, they're going to have a great time. My first time through each of the raids was simply awesome, and your friends will LOVE that part of it. I've also had a lot of fun being a no-spoilers sherpa for several friends of mine who were late to the raid.

There is lots and lots of good stuff in Destiny. For me, my focus has largely been on PvP, and the high end play requires near-perfect roll guns, which means much of the game is tied up in praying for RNG drops in order to compete. This is probably due to the fact that several of my friends are top tier players (Dr. Bob is like #8 in the world for Rift, for example), so I'm always in matches where I'm very likely to get 2-shot by a hand cannon or OHK'd at extreme range by a shotgun. Maximising the number of rolls you can get then turns into a chore and I lose sight of the fun in the game. I also happen to philosophically disagree with several of the design choices in destiny, and the plot pains me to think about. All of these negatives are things I'm pretty passionate about in real life, so I have lots of opinions, experience, and research on them that I like to share and talk about.

I'm sorry that it comes off like I hate my life or something. I don't at all! Even in my post (which apparently has everyone on suicide watch for me) I gave the game a 7/10. That's a positive review and a passing grade.

Here's a weird thing to note: I think that if there were no PvP in Destiny, I would like it a lot more. I also would play it a lot less, but the overall experience would have been far, far more enjoyable for me. Weird, right?

Anyway, I probably spend as much time on this forum as I do playing destiny right now. Pretty close, anyway. You people are all good people and I like hearing everyone's perspectives on things. I'm really glad your friends are having a blast!
