Pubilc events only give materials for the first gold tier event completion each day. That and the raid have been my main source of materials. Never had to rely on RNG for them.

Not true. You only get a letter from the postmaster for the 1st gold tier. Each gold tier event has the chance of giving you an ascendant material at the time of completion.

I've racked up a few just running around from public event to public event on patrol.
