The value of the "We messed up" tour (Destiny)

I think it's effective for them to do this, but as others have noted, this isn't new for them.

We've heard "we've missed the mark" from them quite a few times now, but the thing that is always missing is any sort of explanation as to their thought process behind why they thought something was going to work when it didn't. They dance around it a bit in this video, but only on a very high level, just saying "well, it's hard when you're deep in a game to see how it might be perceived." Which is totally true, except that they had years to address that completely obvious problem. And it's something that constantly happened with Destiny, the Portal being a shining example of that total misalignment.

So what would really build some trust with the community would be to explain what they are doing now to avoid that kind of groupthink issue - this video doesn't address that, it only addresses what they are doing to meet the expectations they already missed the mark on. So how do we know that they won't make the same kinds of mistakes again with what they are providing vs. what people actually want (not necessarily the same as what loud people on the internet say they want)? It's not an easy problem to solve, otherwise movies and video games would never flop, but the first step in figuring it out is at least acknowledging it and having some sort of plan. Maybe they can't politely acknowledge it, because that would require throwing people under the bus or exposing financial issues better left unknown by the public, but it's not like that attribution isn't already happening in this very thread.
