Space Pirates anyone?

by BMRX, British Columbia, Monday, March 04, 2013, 18:23 (4093 days ago)

I've read something about players having the ability to own ships for personal travel to other planets....

Piracy anyone?

Sure we're fighting for the sake of humanity... But I'd still pillage another players ship if I could.

Thoughts?

Piracy sounds neato. But I'm afraid that it'll only be worth it if we're able to manage an exclusive sexy all-hours club aboard a derelict battleship orbiting Neptune.

No aliens though.

I'd love to see a good modern space combat simulator in the same style as Wing Commander: Privateer. That shit was the bombdiggity. EVE: Online could have scratched that itch but turned out completely different. I don't know how fleshed out the spaceflight part of Destiny is going to be but I'd be happy to see a little dogfighting. I doubt it's going to be anything seriously in depth since it looks like Bungie's got their work cut out for them on the FPS front already, but who knows?

Honestly with 10+ years of development you never know. I also don't expect it to be incredibly in-depth, but I also will be surprised if Bungie doesn't do something I'm not expecting.

Mike Tipul (ex-Bungie) has been working on this game, Enemy Starfighter. Looks familiar doesn't it? haha.

This would be cool I think. Imagine LNoS-like space battles with your pirate team and then scavenging the remains of your foes. Personally, I love PvP and would love to have an element like this in the game.

Indeed! I'm excited for this possibility but I wont hold my breath because with Bungie we really have no idea what to expect.

Thinking about it, Bungie is really doing something (to my knowledge) that has never really been done. I feel it's safe to expect the unexpected.

Although PvP in an open world would be fun in some respects, I also think there would be an exceptional amount of griefing from turds who want to camp outside a spawning point for player ships and take pot shots at them.

Having said that, a concerted PvE space environment would be really cool. Given what I assume will be a limited party number in co-op, you could all team up to bring down an enemy frigate or something in a cinematic dog fight... and then scavenge the loot.

I guess PvP will be limited to a competitive multiplayer sandbox for people who want to play the 'normal' multiplayer modes. But since we are "humanities last hope" I don't know how they could intertwine the 'humans killing each other' aspect into Destiny lore in this seamless MMO world they’re trying to sculpt, unless the rivalry between 'factions' really is that vicious!?
