If you guys aren't successful, you can transfer the checkpoint over the reset to save yourselves some time attempting it again this week. It'll require two people who are awake at reset time.

Make sure you end your attempts with at least one character who still has the checkpoint (have this character go early in your attempts, then bring him back at the last attempt to reacquire the checkpoint before finishing). Then one person should enter the VoG using the checkpoint just before the reset, and just wait there for a bit. The second person should log in after the reset (check nightfall progress to be sure you've been reset). After the second person's character has been reset, they can join the first player's character in the VoG. Once he's loaded in, the original person should die - that will transfer the checkpoint to the freshly-reset character. Make the second person fireteam leader, and the first person can go to orbit, get reset, and then rejoin to get the checkpoint as well.

It saves having to do the confluxes again, but requires two awake people at reset time.
