Tails from the Lighthouse (Trials of Osiris Highlights) (Destiny)
Had a fantastic run through the Trials of Osiris with Thee Chaos and Cody last night. Played 5 rounds on our first card, then lost a couple games. So we started on a fresh card and everything clicked. We fell into our groove, and proceeded to defeat 7 teams in a row; earning our trip to the Lighthouse without even using our "mercy" buff.
Our basic strategy involved a rotating "pincer move". Widow's Court essentially has 4 "lanes" that connect the high and low sides of the map. We would send 2 players down 1 lane together while the 3rd player went wide down another lane. If our pair of guardians found the enemy team first, they would engage while our lone wolf moved into position for a flanking maneuver. If the lone wolf found the enemy first, they would stay put or pull back. Our duo would double back and split up; one of us moving to join the lone wolf and form a new front line, while the new lone wolf would flank.
We would constantly shift our approach between different lanes depending on what the enemy team was doing. If they were sniping down the middle 2 lanes, we would go far left and far right. If they were taking up position in the broken building, one of us would go left-middle while the other 2 went far right. We would lose a round every now and then, but were always able to learn from our mistakes and come back with a successful counter move.
A few highlights of the night:
Comeback Round
One of the more intense rounds of the night: I found myself being the last guardian standing twice in 1 round, but managed to fight off the enemy team and get the revives so we could secure the win.
Super Denial
This one was probably the most decisive victory I've ever been a part of in the Trials. We were expecting trouble going in to a match against 3 self-resing warlocks, but by the end of the game we had defeated them without a single one of them charging their super meters. We held their team to 3 total kills for the entire game.
Nail in the coffin
With 8 wins on our card and the mercy buff in our back pockets, we went into this final game feeling confident but determined. Appearing to be somewhat evenly matched, we split the first 2 rounds. Then Cody, Chaos and I turned on the jets. I went on a 10-0 kill streak to help win the game and secure our ticket to the lighthouse. This match also features some of our best rotations and positing from the night, so anyone looking to get a feel for how to approach Widow's Court might want to give it a watch.
So thanks to Chaos and Cody for the fun times last night, and good luck to everyone else heading into the Trials over the next couple of days!
Great Night
We really buckled down and took care of Business. I was able to get all of my characters to the lighthouse this weekend from our run and then Playing With Mex and his friend Z (sorry cant remember spelling). My nerves were shot half the runs but I enjoyed it when we finally got our swing.
Edit: was also able to get my First Messenger which is an Adept (arc) version. Really a game changer.

Lack of Thorn
So far I have run three tickets this week, a 9-0 and two 8-1s. Interestingly this week I've seen relatively little Thorn. Nobody on my fireteam used it, and enemies were generally using other weapons, such as Messanger, MIDA, and Hawkmoon. I wonder if that's because this map is just really good in that you can position yourself right for a variety of weapons to be useful.
We had games that were long distance standoffs, and others that were up close in your face brawls in the tower. Certainly a cool week so far, and it's been fun with you guys.
Maybe we can try our Titans before the reset?

Dat messenger, though.
Thorn really has met its match. I still need an adept version of the messenger (only elemental trials primary I'm still missing) but either way it's a deadly PvP gun.

Yup, people are going to be complaining about it and Red Death dominating when the Exotic hand cannon nerf comes.

Dat messenger, though.
I've been dying a lot to it in PvP. After watching you use it, it's arguably thorn's equal -- two burst shots if you get a triple headshot for a kill is amazing. And even if you don't, the target is going to be scrambling for cover rather than trying to return fire.

I'd give my Gjallarhorn away for a Void Messenger and BH

You can kill in two bursts while getting some body shots thanks to headseeker. The gun is a beast.
Zelekar or Zyxxer, depending on how noisy his kid was :p

The more I think about it, the more I think this is exactly it. Last week I saw nothing but Thorn, this week I've seen hardly any. Nothing has changed except the map. And you're right... it's not like we're seeing any 1 single gun replace Thorn. Messanger, Mida, Hawkmooon, Scholar... also a good mix of shotguns and snipers.
Widow's Court seems to be a map that allows all sorts of playstyles at many different ranges, whereas the majority of the maps in Destiny seem to all favor the same engagement ranges (in which Thorn dominates). Maybe this is something we'll see more of in the future.
I still Thorned.
But I'm a Warlock, so the DoT is helpful for placing Firebolt grenades for maximum murder.

There's a special circle of hell for you people.

PURE EVIL
;p
That's almost as bad as teams that run with 3 Bladedancers all wearing Lucky Raspberry and murder-spam the chain-bolt arc grenades.
Although I do really want to try it out for myself lol

I am going to post a video of one of my better blade dancer games I had last night. Im slowly getting better.
The Super Pox VLO has roughly the same stats...
If you can't do well in Trials and you were lucky enough to pick one up during Vanilla Destiny, it's a fantastic weapon. I got one as a random drop and it is a beast in Crucible right now. Mine has Full Auto, Glass Half Empty and pretty much maxed Stability.

Thieve's Den is a great ToO map to run a squad of Bladedancers because of the typical standoff that happens on the upper platform. Most teams will hide just out of sight around the far corner, stepping through that doorway to take a couple shots then back up through the door again. If you chuck a couple chain grenades through the door at the same time, you might kill 2 or even 3 of them instantly.

I really love the chaining grenades. But the blink is game changer. At first I really sucked with it but now that I have a better understanding of when to jump and little clues to help me figure out where I will be its got alot better. Before I was just lost half the match, but its getting better. It helps to just play the maps and blink around to see what you can and cant do.
Also Arcblade is probably my worst super. its very lucky for me to get 2 kills. Especially in trials. I am far exceeding that now.

I still Thorned.
Don't listen to these guys, you are playing the game the right way. Burn everything.
I was wearing The Ram too

Getting better is an understatement. So many times last night we'd hear you call out contacts, begin moving towards you and two or three skulls would pop up within 3 seconds. I think you're turning into a murderbot Chaos
