Curious about this as well. (Destiny)

There is a maximum range stat? Do you know the number?

I've been curious about that as well but haven't been able to find any specific numbers on the threads I have been reading. I get the impression that people compare the numbers on Bnet when using the different perks and once range reaches a certain number it doesn't increase any more, but I don't have a shotgun built that way to confirm (yet).

The Matador has a higher base range than the Felwinter . . . so if there is a max then that may mean the Matador is better because you can focus perks on other things than range and still get the "max" that you are talking about.

Exactly this. I've read that for the Matador people use the aggressive ballistics even though it decreases range by 5 because it doesn't make a difference so you gain the increased impact without one of the negatives build into that upgrade.

Edit: Some further research lead me to a post on reddit that has this info:
Weapon statistics range from 1-100. If you see a positive number the stat is increased by that amount, and a negative number decreases it. A percent modifier, as expected, increases or decreases it by a set percent. It seems like percent modifiers can raise the statistic over 100 while a numerical stat increase cannot.

The post is from 8 months ago so that info may have changed, but I guess that is where the max on a stat comes from at least. I'm planning on rolling my matador at some point soon. If I end up with the right set of perks I'll be able to test this and confirm (unless someone else has a matador with a few range perks and doesn't mind switching the upgrades around to see what happens).
