What do you guys think Bungie's etheric light idea was? (Destiny)

Maybe, because so many of the community's wishes were granted, like guaranteed loot, less random stuff, Bungie built in the level gated etheric light, so it still feels like we're aiming for something.

Or maybe the prize is there for people to do Iron Banner or Trials even if they don't want to just at the promise of the rare loot.

I think the initial rarity of Etheric Light is meant as a combination of keeping people playing and interested but also as Bungie legitimately wanting to make the special events actually special by having a reward people actually want. I'd kinda like to see Etheric Light be more like exotics where they can drop more or less anywhere, at a low rate, but there are a few places you know you can for sure get them.
