*Spoilers* This week's strike (Destiny)

Anyone else disappointed in the last room when neither of the walkers descended from the holes that they were in near the back wall.

I was sure we were in for an insane fight as soon as Rev pointed them out!

Im wondering if we killed him too fast before they got a change to drop but I doubt it.

Bungie, why you tempt me with most excellent and difficult battle and not deliver????

Anyone else notice the similarities to Combat Evolved mission The Truth and Reconciliation?

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I love that level in Halo, and it was nice to re-experience it, like a spiritual successor. On the other hand, it doesn't live up to how good that level was in Halo. The strike was critically short. FUN, but short. I think some of this had to do with the Arc burn.

I ran it with CC + Cyber last night. None of us had run it before, so it was fresh. Cyber and I had also not done any of the story missions, so EVERYTHING was new to us.

Rundown:

-Start in the "WE'VE WOKEN THE HIVE" area. See big Ketch above. Mind instantly goes to T&R.

-Fight down corridor, notice a new wall erected to force you though the Hive seeder.

-Fight Hive fighting Fallen encounter. Learn that this can be skipped and ran past. Bummer.

-Gravity lift. Oh god, it's Halo. Instead of a Hunter pair at the end, giant Fallen. Woo!

-OMG IS THAT ODST MUSIC?? SOUNDS LIKE IT. GOD I MISS MARTY. Urge to replay ODST growing.

-Ascend lift. Wait for dialogue "No Fallen, you had to go and open your mouth".

-First ship area reminds me of Long Night of Solace from Reach. This is not a bad thing.

-Fight a walker inside?! OK! Arc Burn? OH SHIT.

-ALLUH AKBAR EXPLODING SHANKS claim Cyber as first victim.

-Wipe a couple of time, learning enemy placement.

-Clear room. CC enters next area while Cyber and I explore catwalks. CC comes face to face with giant Fallen. He pimp slaps her lol.

- Go through hallways. See big arena. Excitement grows.

-Notice that giant Fallen has kept the damage we've dealt to him. I keep waiting for some kind of twist or heath re-gen.

-Enter arena, see two walkers in ceiling. Expect them to drop or start shooting. Oh yes please.

-Barely get out of door, giant Fallen is already dead from our concentrated fire.

-Keep waiting for twist. See little enemies still out.

-Mission Complete dialogue pops up.

-Orbit, rewards, sadface.

All in all, that Nightfall was a Striker Titan's dream. Arc burn? Melee Buff? Confined spaces? SHOULDER CHARGE that does melee AND Arc damage?? WOOOOO!

It was a fun ride that ended too fast. I'm going to venture that it plays better without the arc burn.

A man walks into a doctors office. He says, "Dr., it hurts every time I move my arm like this."

The doctor says, "don't move your arm like that."

Did you notice, though, that the smaller enemies start flooding the room after the mission complete message pops up? On every other level (as far as I can remember), the enemies despawn when the boss goes down. It makes me wonder what's hidden in this room that they don't even want to give 30 seconds of peace to explore it.

I did actually, because they killed me haha.

We only had enough time to run it once, so I want to go back and explore and try what you just said. We didn't even get to run around the whole room. We did enough damage to him on the way to the room that he went down easily on the final encounter.

Yeah, I was having way to much fun taking my side-arm to all of the dregs that flooded the room. Now I'm interested in what else is in that room...

It took longer without the burn - but I'm not sure I'd say it played better. (Just different. They were both fun.)

That arc burn made the walker's secondary gun LETHAL. Splash damage was unreal.

We shuddered to think about this level with solar burn. All those shanks... and that super scorch cannon? Eep.

In the hallway to the left, you can duck out and destroy the arc cannon on top of the walker from relative safety.

Just gotta run real quick before the snipers get you (they sure got me).

Have someone who is in the left tunnel take it off. 5 or 6 sniper rounds, and it's gone. Makes things much easier.

For what it's worth

by Earendil, Wednesday, May 20, 2015, 15:13 (3729 days ago) @ Revenant1988

While we didn't have much trouble getting to the last arena, we hadn't done much damage to the boss yet. This in turn allowed the battle to go on for a little bit, at which point enemies FLOODED us. It was two 33 and one 32 guardian unloading into the doorway and we weren't pushing them back for a couple seconds. Pretty cool. As soon as we beat them back far enough to get a clean shot at the boss he went down, but we had a little trouble getting out of the doorway :)

We did it as 32s (all 3 of us), and there was a really tense moment near the end that might have broken us, morale-wise, if it had ended differently. Two guardians went down just outside that first hallway, one on each side. They went down BECAUSE of the flood of enemies that started coming in at that point - which meant that the 3rd guardian (me) needed to revive two characters before dying while the place was FULL of baddies. The boss was at about 10% at that point, so a wipe would mean we were seconds from finishing but would have to start over.

I went right first, started reviving, and suddenly found myself surrounded by explodashanks. We all 3 thought that was the end.

I ran as fast as I could, and I think if Brawler hadn't been on, I couldn't have powered my way through the dregs that were in the hallway between me and the other downed guardian. With a little distance, I was able to turn (staying in the hallway to avoid that insane scorch cannon) and blow up the explodashanks without dying in the resultant boom.

There was NO red bar left on my health meter. Not even a pixel. It was empty.

I think if I had died there, we'd have come back to the nightfall another day. None of us would have had the heart to start over.

That's the sort of PvE that makes me come back to Destiny over and over. It hasn't happened for a while, simply because we've been the top of the food chain for a good chunk of time. We're not any more, and that's hot. :)

I REALLY was hoping for that line & a flood of guys with you in the center. I would have been happy if it would have happened in the area with the walker, but it didn't.

I was hoping for a little more with that end boss battle. I hadn't noticed the two walkers, it would have been AMAZING to fight them both.

This is exactly why I didn't jump straight into the Nightfall. I wanted to experience the new strike with its normal pacing the first time. And I thought it was good fun. Fighting a walker inside does make that enemy more interesting.
