I murdered 2 Guardians (Destiny)
Despite being sensibly talked down recently, this past weekend I decided I needed to follow through and simplify my Destiny experience by deleting my Titan and Hunter.
It has been positive. I did not like playing a Hunter, although I found them pretty interesting--I think they have the most complex play style. I liked the Titan bubble, but long term rocking it led to dull gameplay. Ultimately, I've always enjoyed playing as a Warlock and just wanted to focus on that.
It took a good bit of time to strip the characters of all their possessions. My Warlock and Vault were at maximum capacity when I started to break down duplicate weapons and shuffle things around. My Warlock was suddenly spoiled with riches.
I've started spending a lot of time in the Strike playlist and even Crucible, two things which I never had time for because I never ran out of Nightfalls and bounties to run. There's also a new emphasis on making sure to do the Weekly Heroic, since I can't count on a safety net of a guaranteed 27 strange coins if Xur sells something good and I've been slacking.
I know it will take longer for me to gather Etheric Light for my gear than you guys that are rocking 3 characters, but it will be several months before comet. I'll have time. I'll get there too. In the mean time, I really like having less to keep up with and I feel completely prepared for House of Wolves.
Having 3 characters didn't help me get a Gjallarhorn anyway.

I murdered 2 Guardians
I might follow your lead except I won't murder them. I'm not crazy! ;) But I am thinking of just letting characters take vacations. I've somewhat done this already, but the one thing that keeps me from doing it completely is the ever-present desire for more coins. I've seldom had more than 50, unlike some of you, and they go quickly.

Make 2 other Warlocks instead
Then you have the luxury of only rocking one, or doing the quick-leveling you can do by three characters of the same class.

To me that's the definition of tediousness.
Speaking of, I'm very excited that the weekly and the nightfall will no longer be the same.

If I become absolutely desperate to bypass the lockout, this is what I'll do.. but it kind've defeats the point. I think I'd rather run the content just for fun/with no rewards.

This
Except for a Nightfall now and then when the burn helps, I haven't touched my Titan in ages. I leave him alive basically for storage purposes.

The Guardian Centipede
My Hunter is the mouth. He gets all the good stuff, and is first through the door when the action starts.
The Warlock is the middle. First crack at hand-me-downs, and I usually use her for farming.
The Defender is the butt. His gear pickin's are so slim that he mostly wears Iron Banner stuff.
I don't think I'd ever delete a dude, but focusing on one over the others makes the game 1/3 as repetitive. And that's a large number with a game this repetitive to begin with!

Warlocks Forever!!

Mmmmmm. Just replace your dead Hunter and Titan with more Warlocks.

For me, having 3 characters made the game 3x as repetitive. :\

Because you weren't focusing on a single one

Not possible. *Twitch*

I'd like to delete my hunter and make another titan, but there are a few reasons preventing me from doing so:
- I don't have near enough room in my vault to keep all my weapons/gear, so I'd have to sacrifice a lot of it during the deletion process
- I'd no longer have a written record of how much time I'd spent playing. (Stat-tracking sites keep track of this on a per-character basis)
- I'd have to re-level my factions until I could spend any marks I've earned on that character.
- I'd have to play through the story missions again.

#3 and #4 aren't really problems
HoW will introduce the "Commendations for Rep" system, making #3 a lot easier. Also, the Crucible will gives out a lot of XP and guaranteed daily Crucible bonus packages will give quite a boost of XP as well, so you could skip all but the very first 2 story missions.

Except for when you pick up a bounty to kill someone on a mission that you haven't unlocked yet. I still run into that one with my Warlock, then I'll hang onto the bounty thinking that it'll motivate me to run through the mars missions, but... I just don't.

Well, I'm glad you feel better about it. If it works for you, that's great. Seriously, less stress from video games is good. None would be better. :)
Personally, I don't completely get it. I have 3 characters, but I don't feel like I'm under any pressure to keep up on all of them. Mostly this is because I just don't give a shit about getting to 32. I never got to 30 in the original game, and just did VoG hard mode after TDB came out and I could get to 31 with vendor gear. I had planned to keep that strategy going forward, so right now I'm not worrying about 32, and haven't bothered with Crota hard mode. It's looking like my plan is going to work out better than I thought in HoW, though, since I'll be able to max out with vendor gear (or even my current gear, really).

Yeah I feel similarly. I do care about getting to 32 on my main character, but don't really care about my alts. They will probably hit 34 in HoW since I can buy everything they need using marks and etheric light over time, but I have no desire to rush them just to rush them.

If you ever want to power through them, I'd be happy to go through them with you. I won't be able to offer much in the way of conversation, but 2 guardians can crush through those missions a lot faster than 1 :)

And yet you won't invest in your Xbox characters because you don't want to go through it all over again..
Good job!
I'd say it's about time. I have the opposite problem of you. I'm really debating creating a second character for the first time, but Destiny can be just so stupidly unforgiving and grindy that I don't know if I want to go through making a second character. At the same time, Warlocks can be fairly fun to play with. For now, I think I'm going to hold off and continue on with my Titan. Gotta get that Horus armor rocking, you know?

I think more characters is less grinding and more reward.
More characters means you have more choice of what you want to do and still get rewards. What if you HAD 200 strange coins? Then you could have that Suros you have been coveting.
What if you don't want to do the rocket launcher kills bounty? No problem. Get on your hunter and do the crucible bounties you LIKE doing. 3 nightfalls is rough, but spread them over the week and it gives you more rep, it's more fun (and sometimes you get a bounty for doing stuff there), and you get more chances for guns. With one guy, you do the nightfall, and when the Aksor bounty comes up, you say fuck it. When the heroic or nightfall bounty comes up, you say fuck it. But with 3 guys, you think "Oh yeah, I can do that on my Hunter! That will be fun!"
Nobody's forcing you to play all 3. It just opens up more activities you like with rewards.
Good job!

Where I'm coming from is that I've had all 3 characters and except for a node or two for Gunslinger, maxed all 6 subclasses. I know how they all play and none of them are as fun for me as Warlock. I'd rather just play a Warlock.
I gain nothing by having 2 other characters that need to be maintained. I also gain nothing by having 2 stagnant characters stare at me on the login screen.
It is more grinding and more reward.
I'm happy to slow down, even if I forfeit some random loot drops. I can always replay the content just for fun--which is the point, right? For fun?

You make Titan's everywhere cry.

All these comments about the lack of Titan love makes my Titan soul hurt.
Seconded
When I first started Destiny I was determined not to be a Titan - I've been enough space marines. Same with Hunters - I always play stealth characters, and hunter is as close to that as you can reasonably get. No, I was going to be a Warlock.
And then it turned out I didn't really enjoy being a Warlock. The jump was awkward, the grenades (at least the Void and Scatter) were uninteresting, and I hadn't unlocked Sunsinger so even the melee was boring. It doesn't help that I can't hit anything with Nova Bomb. Mostly I think it was the jump though.
So I begrudgingly rolled a Titan. Turns out I was a Titan all along, on the inside. Titan Smash.

Good job!

Except all that extra storage space they provide. It's like two more free vaults!

Yeah, I don't completely get it either, although if I were an obsessive completionist, I might have to take such steps just to reduce stress. I am somewhat a completionist, just a patient one. My Xbox Titan is a level 12, and my PS Titan doesn't exist yet. Those characters represent future replay opportunities to me. I've got so many combinations I haven't tried yet.

Same. I cringe a little bit every time someone mentions it. I mean, no offense or anything - I just can't imagine being so obsessed with getting to max level that I'd rather cut my variety by 2/3.
Also, that sort of thing is exactly what Pete is trying to avoid, I think.

It is more grinding and more reward.
It's only more grinding if you actually DO play more than you would have with one character.
I think more characters is less grinding and more reward.
Everything you just described sounds like a grindy mess. I play Destiny to have fun, not to get coins and unlocks. I also have more Strange Coins and things than I know what to do with on my Titan, which I assume I would just shovel over to whatever new character I create anyway. I'm so bored of Nightfalls that I haven't even touched one in about two months. Bungie's lack of story and narrative has killed my motivation to care about most of the "campaign" experiences and challenges outside of the Raids, and even those have gotten old at this point.
House of Wolves looks to be providing a bunch of new content and experiences that I'm very much looking forward to. It'll be a nice change of pace, and there are definitely some things that I want to work toward. I don't know where another character fits into all of that yet, but I think that after I get my Horus armor going, I may start a Warlock and make it very House of Wolves focused. Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris looks pretty nifty, and I'm wondering how a new character might work in both based on my play style. :D
Good job!
I've never considered that. I haven't even come close to filling my vault, and that's even before they expanded it. And I've been hoarding some Warlock stuff for half a year now just in case I decide to make one. Are people keeping every single thing they come across? I scrap just about everything that I know I won't use or won't need at some point. Usually I try things out for a bit and get rid of it if I don't like it, so it makes it relatively easy to decide.

Cody did that with Thorn when it first came out. It was pretty terrible, so he scrapped it. Then Bungie made it one of the best guns in the game. Oops.
Point is, when you shard stuff, you don't have a way to get it back easily, and it might become very useful later.
