Anyone else catch this?
Exo Warlock! An ancient rusted war machine in a tattered robe who wields unknown powers and carries a shotgun? Does it really need any explanation?
Christopher Barrett, Art Director
I was under the assumption that Exos would be from cutting-edge technology, not ancient tech. Maybe they're a reclaimed technology from Humanity's golden era?
EDIT: And didn't they say they looked at the undead as an inspiration for Exo design? I'm really starting to think dead/lost technology here.

Huh now that you mention this I realize they never mentioned it but I always assumed they would be ancient.

Awoken
On a similar note, that casts the Awoken in a similar light. Awoken implies sleeping, implies a race that may have been around before but was just waiting for the right time to be brought back into the fight. Could be grasping at straws, I suppose, but it seems possible that at least two of the playable races are 'leftovers' from the Golden Age. (Technically all three, since humanity has always been here.)
