The Precursor vex appear to be new, and the descendant ones appear to be old.

I don't know if the game mixes it up at all. If we go to the past, it is shiny and new, which is okay, because it was new then. If we go to the future, it's old and shitty, because it's the future, so it's old and shitty then.
