Problem for me is that they did explain it, but only after a long, rambling story-time in which it's played like it even came as a surprise to Deej.
"Wow, sorry guys, I totally didnt expect this either".
The explanation is sound even if some people don't like the reasoning behind it, but they should have led with it, not buried it under condescending filler.
