Want to try skydiving (Off-Topic)

Hello all!

I remember from a few months back that some people here had skydiving experience.

I want to try this for the first time.

What do I need to look out for, what questions should I ask, how much should I be looking to spend, what else do I need to know?

cheers

I wish I could be more helpful, but when I went my girlfriend set everything up, so I don't really know the answer to any of those. I do know where we went it was about $200 per person per jump, not sure how that compares to other places.

I can tell you, though; it was an absolute blast that I plan on doing again multiple times. It was a rush, and incredible experience. I can't even describe it.

I have been skydiving a couple times before.

1st time was a couple summers ago here in Michigan, beautiful day. You'll go on a tandem jump with the instructor attached to you. It's quite a rush. You go through a 30 minute hands on course so you kind of know what's happening when they tell you the different commands.

When you're going up in the plane you just have to have an open mindset that you're not going to be coming down in the plane. It's simply a mind over matter deal and you'll definitely enjoy yourself on the way down. There are simply no words to describe the feeling.

I usually go every other summer now, still tandem jumps. You can't jump on your own unless you have at least a few dozen jumps and go through training courses. But for the average Joe to go jump out of a plane, you can't go wrong. Definitely worth it!

Find a USPA dropzone. USPA is the governing body that oversees the sport in the United States. They have standards that they set, including safety ones. You can go to a non-USPA dropzone, but I honestly wouldn't recommend it.

You can find them at uspa.org.

With that out of the way, you should determine whether or not you want to do Tandem or AFF. Tandem is when you are attached to a tandem master. AFF lets you jump with your own rig, along side instructors. AFF is more costly, and you need about an 8 hour class and training. But it's way cooler.

Be sure that whoever your instructor is lets you participate, and teaches you about the sport if going tandem. This includes giving you an altimeter, teaching you basics, letting you deploy the main, etc.

Plan to spend the entire day there, and ask to party with the jumpers afterward. Skydivers love to party.

Thanks for the link Cody.

It lead me to the Niagara Skydive Centre which is VERY close. http://goo.gl/maps/2k1Pk

In fact, i could be as low as 300ft and still be able to say, "I can see my house from here!"

Now all i have to do is figure out how to come up with $634.00.

Drive to the States and go to Frontier skydivers instead. I started there, and you can still see Niagara falls. And it's definitely not 634 bucks. I think they have a Caravan, which is a decent aircraft.
