Valve just announced that Steam Machines are coming this summer. They’ll need a killer app.
The Summer Game Fest hosted by Geoff Keighley (friend of Valve) is tomorrow.
HLX is six years into development and likely either done or close to done at this point, based on datamining discoveries.

I think there's a better chance of the Marathon 20/10 Scenario Pack getting released than HL3.

It’s known through datamining that they’ve been plugging away at it for six years now and extensive work has been done on environments for a new interpretation of Xen. They’re using voxel-based destructible environments and an advanced object distortion algorithm. The game is at least in an end-to-end playable beta state, but possibly close to final, as that information is about a year out of date now.
There’s also a comically intricate hair physics simulator.
They could very well scrap the entire project tomorrow, but it's real and it's very far along.

Didn't have a clue. If I read the gaming press like I used to, I would've known that Valve was going to make an announcement and might have understood. I didn't get the play the first one. Loved the second one, but obviously don't think about it these days.
Should have predicted HL2: Episode 3 instead.
