Baby Steps (Gaming)
I'm surprised I haven't seen anything posted here, given how much people were talking about Getting Over It. Anyone been playing? Please no spoilers, I'm not finished yet! :) I will say that I just finished picking a fruit.
If anyone's not familiar, it's... a literal walking simulator. You move the legs with controller triggers and lean with left stick, and there's almost no other controls except a very rare "use" button and a camera control i pretty much never use.
I'm not usually a seeker of difficult games, and I have no real awareness of the dev's previous work outside of the Getting Over It discussions I read here. And, until very recently, I didn't have a PC anywhere near up to speed for gaming so this one's kind of an oddball for me, but I saw this video when the demo came out and it was so funny that I had to try it myself:
I don't know how to explain it, but it's just one of the best written, most charming, sometimes shocking (be wary of the nudity setting unless you have no children or innocent adults around), weird, wonderful experiences in recent memory. A lot of the time it's not THAT hard, but sometimes it really is. I'm not actually sure whether I'll manage to finish it since I've stayed spoiler free and don't know how much harder it will get, but I soldier on.
I might post some screenshots of where I've been with spoiler tags in the subject, if there's any interest in the game.

Baby Steps
I loved it. Honestly one of my favorite games this year. It’s incredibly funny but also pretty thoughtful.
It’s not really that much like Getting Over It, in that it’s actually pretty easy to just make the climb. There is a bunch of ultra difficult things to do, but it’s all basically optional, and if you just want to get to the end there is pretty much always a relatively easy path to take. And, while it seems kind of annoying at first, it’s actually generous. You don’t typically fall backwards too far, there’s almost always a backstop, and some of the common failure points actually land you at the foot of an easier path (if you want to take the coward’s way out). It’s actually a really approachable game.
There’s also a bunch of pretty cool hidden things to find, so it’s definitely worth exploring around.

I'm feeling the same. It's so damn funny and ludicrous but I'm also seeing some real character development. It's so good.

I've definitely been in spots where I could only see one way, but perhaps if I'd backed up really far there would have been another path! Always tried my hardest to not fall back too far so that could be the case.

I'm in a place right now where, without spoiling the specifics, there's kind of a lot of open space and I can just pick things to tackle. I think i can see a place to "progress," but I'm not interested in going there yet. Having too much fun.
