Too little too late, or a new beginning?

I have no opinion, except that "We make games that we like to play" is a vastly superior guiding star than "We make worlds that inspire friendship." I'm not even sure how you do the latter.

They lost a Microsoft manager type and gained a Creator/Engineer type to drive the ship. Just that right there is potentially a HUGE boon.

Based on what we know now... it's a darn shame it didn't happen sooner. So as it goes.

Isn't that the Apple mantra? It leaves plenty of room to sell the next "improved" version.

No, sadly Apple's mantra these days seems to be "just do whatever, who cares about UI and usability anymore?"

I don’t think a single company gives a fuck about UI or usability anymore. Every piece of software I interact with now sucks and feels like it’s designed by people that have never used it and don’t even understand what it’s for.

You can grow something with shit, but you sure can't with poison. Take the wins where they can be found.

Yes. So? He was saying that in a room full of developers, and if you take that in context (including what he was saying) his meaning was clear: if you keep delivering more and more and more, people will expect more, and then become disappointed when they don't get that. This will lead to an awful cycle of more and more getting made, leading to more crunch, an increasingly unsustainable path, and then at some point, everything will blow up in your face.

Yeah, Truman is a pretty good pick for leadership based on everything I know about him. In my estimation, the issue here isn't Truman at all, but simply whether or not this change is coming too-little-too-late, which is entirely outside of his control. He could be the best CEO in the history of game development, but it won't matter if he doesn't have enough runway to land the plane.

He can't turn back the clock. All he can do is guide the company forward from this starting point. I wish him the best of luck.

I don't want more. I want BETTER.

Scope leads to what you describe. Quality does not.

... I forget the rest.

Sure, this is a good thing (and a long time coming!), but it really looks like Sony kept him on as the fall guy for those massive layoffs.
