I've been following Helldivers II since it launched on PC and PS and am super excited that it's coming to Xbox.
Anyone here been playing it on PC and PS?
Anyone else as excited as me that it's coming to Xbox?
Anything I need to know going into it?
(also looking forward to Delta Force).

Rock And Stone!
Anyone here been playing it on PC and PS?
Sammy, Fooch, and I played it quite a bit when it came out. It was and continues to be a great time, though we hit that point where we moved on to other games (Single-Player games making a huge comeback! Everyone should play Expedition 33!)
Anyone else as excited as me that it's coming to Xbox?
I’m always happy to sabot- err, bring unique and fun loadouts to any outing!
Anything I need to know going into it?
Don’t blow your resources on unlocking everything as it becomes available. Early gear is a solid workhorse, and as you play with randoms or more experienced friends, you will have ample opportunities to try out weapons, stratagems, vehicles, etc. To find what clicks with you (you can drop weapons and gadgets for teammates to use freely, or just loot the corpses of your allies. You will have no shortage of those to dig through).
It’s especially fun to pick a role among friends and pick unlocks and Warbonds accordingly.
Also, don’t underestimate shotguns. And ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️ will be the answer to basically every problem.

I played it a little with CyberKN and another friend on the PS. Had a lot of fun! Less fun by myself. My two main complaints: 1) a dark color palette that makes it hard for me to see (I hear that this has been addressed on newer maps), and 2) I just don't have the bandwidth for another live service game.

I play somewhat regularly on PC, and while that's less so as of late, I would totally be down for some dives together.
Helldivers II is some of the most fun I've had in the shooter genre since Reach and the community is overall welcoming and light-hearted. Korny provided some great starter tips, but I would recommend easing into the difficulty settings and finding your groove before jumping straight into Super Helldive difficulty; friendly-fire is active at all times by default.
Also, I can confirm that shotguns do indeed slap.

And the music starts at 1:17 in the video. Many a streamer are all about the ODST integration, but it also seems that Arrowhead is very obvious with their "homages", of which there are many Halo nods.
Slight deviation from the topic, but indirectly related. I'm finding it interesting how, in the past couple of years, Playstation is suddenly playing nice with everyone. They used to be the big holdouts when it came to crossplay and sharing IPs. Lately, as talks of hardware becoming potentially unnecessary and games being purely cloud based, Sony is loosening the reins.
Helldivers even coming to Xbox surprised me, but then it also getting and ODST theme? That's interesting. There's also talks of Halo: MCC going to Playstation, which I think is pretty rad. It's time we break down these barriers of console exclusivity! Share the love of games!

Money and data collection would be the obvious reason. Online PC ports have been hugely successful (though their single-player releases have been pretty hit-or-miss).
Wish there was a more altruistic reason, but nah. The whole “required Sony account” debacle for single-player games on Steam made their motives pretty clear.

Helldivers was a massive success at launch, and the community was very vocal about needing more bodies to send into the Major Order grinder wanting the game to release on Xbox as well. It was a near-universal request that I’m certain made it into Sony’s boardrooms. I imagine Sony’s Steam screwup that cratered the population numbers (and reviews) played a role in them talking about it with more seriousness. It being one of their only Live-service successes while their other investments have been largely DOA has made this one game they do not want to fail.
Combine that with Arrowhead being very obvious with their Halo references (there’s already a legally-distinct Master Chief armor in the game), and stating that they were open to crossover content as long as it fit the aesthetic of the game (as an explanation for the Killzone armor, but also as a response to the ODST requests that have been around since the first game, but which exploded after the Killzone announcement), and the ingredients were all on the table begging to be used.
With Gears coming out on PS5 soon, it’s nigh inevitable that we’ll be seeing Halo make the jump too, which makes me happy. Infinite got dealt a crummy hand, and the MCC deserves continued success and love. Plus, ODST will be back on people’s minds thanks to Helldivers, sooooo…
On a similar note, Fortnite offering both their Halo and Destiny bundles as a weekly special the day after the Bungie/Sony news broke was an oddly humorous bit of timing. I remember loading up the PlayStation way back when only to be greeted by a giant Master Chief on the screen and shaking my head as I chuckled sensibly. How far we’ve come…

Uncropped image is what Super Earth demands!
Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Weapons:
MA5C Assault Rifle – An iconic rifle; the definition of reliable and having taken down countless aliens bent on wiping out humanity, it is time to turn its sights on enemies of Managed Democracy. It comes equipped with the convenient ammo counter and a built-in compass – let it guide you to victory.
M7S SMG – Silent and deadly, with caseless ammo and a non-removable suppressor; this weapon is ready to spread Freedom to every corner of the galaxy.
M90A Shotgun – This powerful shotgun carries a kick and has a handy flashlight mounted on it so you can see the fear in your enemies’ eyes before you teach them a valuable lesson about Liberty.
M6C/SOCOM Pistol – They say keep your friends close and your sidearm closer. Well, we say that. The standard-issue ODST sidearm is your silent ally in the field – equipped with a built-in laser sight, flashlight, and, for the first time in Helldivers 2, a suppressor to support stealth gameplay. Because sometimes the best way to enforce Peace is quietly…
Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Armor:
A-9 Helljumper – Debuted during the New Mombasa Armor Show, this sleek ensemble is sure to turn heads and blow minds.
A-35 Recon – Made famous by the Ministry of Intelligence’s hide-and-seek-and-destroy champion of ’52, this armor has been improved by removing excess shoulder protection.
Feet First Armor Passive – Applied to both the above armor sets, this passive allows your Helldiver Helljumper to make less noise when moving, become immune to leg injuries, and increases the range of discovering points of interest by 30%.
Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Capes and More:
Honored Heirloom Cape – Should the wearer of this cape perish at the hands of Freedom’s enemies, it is customary to pass the cape on to their bravest child during the funeral, inspiring the next generation to take up arms.
Eye of the Clandestine Cape – Those who serve Liberty from the shadows often elect to stay anonymous, moving like traceless spectres through the night. May they watch over us always.
More! – The Warbond will also include ODST-themed player cards, a new player title, “Rookie”, and new vehicle pattern in a very familiar color known as Mean Green.

Lord knows it was needed.
Couple of nights ago Sammy and I were reminded of how openly hostile Joel is towards people who run duos. Even with free FRVs and Napalm stratagems, the bugs were absolutely relentless, and activating the exfil beacon felt like it took longer than the rest of the mission combined. It was rough going… sneakiness being an option might prove a lot more beneficial… especially considering some of my historically poor strategies…

Oof... I felt that, "Do you explode when you die?" in my soul. I, on the other hand, never make the mistake of running integrated explosives on bug hunts, and always tactically-assess the situation before making any strategic move --
. . .
Yeah, duos can be rough on the higher difficulties for sure. One of my favorite things to do when playing on my own is to answer single-squad SOS beacons or join low-level players, call-in the cool stratagems for them to use, and generally try to make their first time with the game a positive experience.
. . .

I've always loved games that let you swoop in, rain cool stuff on folks, then fly off into the sunset knowing they get to make new memories and maybe pay it forward one day (Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 5, and Warframe come to mind)...
Unfortunately, most low-level players in Helldivers just seem confused with the gifts. They run around Mechs, ignore supply weapons, and generally just seem happy to let you run off to do the less fun objectives on your own (which hey, I don't mind).
But darn it if I don't leave them with a unique memory... :P
Recon spotted one minute in!

Wow that all looks amazing and perfect. Thanks Sony.

Here's two videos that show what makes this game special. The first one encapsulates the true beauty of the Helldivers experience when everybody clicks and the natural beauty of the world supplements the chaos of the combat. It's something you don't find in many other experiences...
And here's one of those golden moments where the simple act of joining your friends can have unintended consequences...

Halo 2 vibes are real
by ManKitten , The Stugotz is strong in me., Tuesday, September 02, 2025, 14:52 (4 days ago) @ Bones
This game has been so fun. I've not had new game excitement like this since Halo 2. There's so much about this game that I wish Destiny would have been from the beginning.
And again...this is all relative to my play style. I just don't have time anymore to dedicate towards a pinnacle activity. And in Destiny, you can only get pinnacle gear from pinnacle activities. And even then, there's a roll of the dice if you actually get it.
In Helldivers, I can hop into a game by myself, on easy difficult. Do a mission, collect loot, gain my exp and eventually....I too will get that pinnacle gear.
Yes, there are items that require currency only acquired in pinnacle difficulty missions, but not so many that I'm riddled with FOMO, or are powerless without said item.
The community aspect of, all players are working towards an ever changing goal, that has consequence keeps things fresh and fun.

One neat thing is the way even fresh players can try out most things that they are curious about. My brother made the official jump into the game in Sunday (he’d played a few times when he came over, but has no PS5). He was curious about several weapons and stratagems, so Sammy and I jumped into a bug -> bot -> squid mission with the gadgets and weapons to let him get a feel for a bunch of different gadgets in ideal/less-than-ideal scenarios. It helped him decide what Warbond he was going to grab with his token, what weapons and stratagems he was going to skip (he didn’t like the mechs, whaaaa?), and convinced him that paying $15 for the ODST bond was a no-brainer (MA5C, M90A, you’re as beautiful as the day I lost you).

Do a mission, collect loot, gain my exp and eventually....I too will get that pinnacle gear.Yes, there are items that require currency only acquired in pinnacle difficulty missions, but not so many that I'm riddled with FOMO, or are powerless without said item.
I’d argue that with a seasoned veteran, the difficulty 6 missions where you find the Super samples are totally doable. The enemies don’t get more health, and the big difference is mission length, enemy variety, and numbers in a wave. The only snag right now is the Predator strain that has dominated the bug front. They are relentless in their numbers, but that may have ended with today’s update… speaking of which…
The community aspect of, all players are working towards an ever changing goal, that has consequence keeps things fresh and fun.
When my brother got on, I gave him the “story so far” about the last couple of weeks, with the in-game-lore explanation of the Xbox launch, the multi-front assault from all three factions, and the reason we were establishing a FOB on the bugs this week. It was neat to have a sense that there was a cause and effect to the world, and it felt pretty impactful that the first world we were jumping into, Hellmire, was the same world he first jumped into back when he first tried the game, though that world looked VERY different than it did back then- before the Meridia incident…
The game is so neat. Sammy and I have fully jumped back in. My only complaint is that the two-minute-long friend codes make adding people on other platforms really awkward, but it’s a nitpick, ultimately.
Glad you’re enjoying it!

I finally convinced my son to download the game. In his first match I was able to call down my stratagems for him to use, and he was excited to get the instant upgrade. (All I had worth sharing was a guard dog :P)
Bones dropped his mech for me a few times and that thing was awesome!

Remember Machinimas? Truly essential to the Halo 2 era vibes. While videos like these aren’t usually in-engine anymore thanks to Blender and such, the spirit is still alive, and it’s great to see how much Helldivers is reigniting that spark that you just sadly don’t see anymore…
I love this one. Especially when the DSS that we built as a community comes in, *mwah*.

1-4 person fireteams, with a max of 4 players per mission.
There is a quickmatch feature that will drop you into a random game.
You can search missions in progress and choose to join if desired.
Sometimes there are SOS signals where others are asking for help.
As a host you can choose to keep your game closed, friends only, or open.
You can also send up an SOS to recruit other divers.
