FF7 Rebirth on PC (Destiny)
I finally got FF7 Rebirth on PC and started playing it a few weeks ago. I think I'm 100 hours in and I'm on the last chapter (Found & talked to Dio but no further. Did a lot of the side quests first). This game is huge.
Cody, I just watched your second trailer and thought you did a great job, but the thread was locked so I couldn't respond there.
This game is incredible. I haven't been playing games at all for a few years but this one really sucked me in. I am excited to see how this chapter ends (To my knowledge, I remain unspoiled).
Hope everyone in DBO Forums land is doing well.

FF7 Rebirth on PC
I wish I loved this game.
I loved Remake and Intermission so much. I love parts of Rebirth. The story (at least so far) is really compelling. I love the writing and the characters and the tone and vibes so much. It's all so ridiculous but so earnest it just works. The combat is fun. The mini games are all great (especially playing the piano).
The open world sucks all the life out of the game. I got to Gongaga and just called it quits. It's so absolutely annoying and adds nothing of value to the rest of the game. It's just a chore. Cody keeps telling me to get back to playing it, but just thinking about spending another second in that god forsaken open world makes me want to pull my hair out. It's a shame the one blemish on the game is so annoying that it might genuinely prevent me from completing a pretty incredible experience otherwise.

That’s not the last chapter at all.
I’m glad you liked the new trailer, but I feel like it misrepresents the game. It’s clearly a light hearted rom com.

Skip all the open world shit.
Just mainline the story and story side quests. All the open world bullshit is OPTIONAL. Thank goodness, because it’s the only blemish on this game. This is definitely a time where 100%ing is a bad idea.

Oh, wow. I am not sure why I thought this was the last chapter.

Yeah, I saw this one when you first posted it--really good as well.

I agree with Cody. The open world stuff is optional. I chose to do most of it because I enjoy the game world.
The one thing that is worth doing in the open-world is the protorelic stuff. Sometimes the quests part is a chore but the story/cinematic parts are quite interesting and well done. I found myself getting invested in that storyline.
Some of the other random side quests have interesting story components too, but you don't really know before you start them. As far as the intel challenges and all that, I imagine you can skip them and have a game that you enjoy more.
I think most of the minigames are pretty good. I dislike the piano challenges for the music. For a freeplay interactive piano in a video game, it's great. But I find the control scheme incredibly frustrating when trying to do the challenges.
I may have enjoyed the combat more in Remake. The consensus seems to be that this one is faster but it makes the slow characters harder to use. From watching videos, I thought the synergy abilities were going to be a much larger part of combat than they are.

So I actually enjoy most of the activities in the open world. It’s literally the world itself I hate. Just moving through it sucks. Having to watch my chocobo spend 10 seconds slowly climbing a wall every 30 feet is maybe the stupidest thing ever put into a video game. And there’s just tiny little ledges everywhere so you have to watch Cloud do his little animation. It’s just annoying in a way that makes me irrationally frustrated.

They can be, I guess. I use synergy abilities constantly.

Woah woah.
The “extend stagger” ones may not do much, but being able to get INFINITE MP and THREE ATB BARS is so sick. You’ll probably use them more on hard mode for these unique effects.
Synergy SKILLS are likewise sick. I constantly used counter fire, spellbound blast, and power cleave. They’ll build ATB for both characters at the same time.
