I think it's awesome that Titans are Stormtroopers. We don't need to worry that we can't shoot things, because we were just gonna punch 'em anyway.

Just like your calling out of the Ghostbuster crossover, I will counterpoint your argument with....

This looks pretty fun! And what's wrong with that? (in a game that severely lacks it)

It's almost as bad as making a deal with Monster Energy… oh wait

You were wrong about that too. I can’t pretend like it doesn’t make me an idiot, but the game was just a tiny bit better when it had Monster Energy and the motorcycle show plastered over the shower. It just fit the vibes somehow that was actually additive in the stupidest way.

Nah.

The director's cut removed that (maybe the deal expired, I dunno). And it was way better since my mind never left the world of the game.

Except for when Amelie said "Mario and Princess Beach" lol

I’m with Fooch. It’s one of the big reasons I’ve steered folks away from the Director’s cut. There’s a very strong Kojima element that was lost with the generic brands.

I’m also of two minds with the Star Wars stuff (besides it all being stupidly expensive).
On the one hand, Bungie’s been consistently great with Destiny-fying the crossover content, so it’s very disappointing that the SW stuff is just 1:1 in art and direction.
On the other hand, you can make some seriously sick looking Storm Troopers, and the armor pieces are ironically super clean for coming from a greeble-obsessed franchise, which is a nice contrast to Destiny’s… well, invariably terrible-looking armor of the past few years.

Off the top of my head, the only product placements I recall were the iPod in MGS4, and some random brand of instant noodles in MGS3. I wouldn't say either were 'major elements' in the experience.

Other games have real brands like Snatcher and Policenauts, but that felt appropriate as they would either be things you'd really see (billboards in a city for products), or else plot appropriate (Gibson's computer in Snatcher was 50 years old, so you needed to figure out how to run the programs on it.)

Does it make the world feel more natural or add to the experience? Ok. Does it feel weird and out of place? Bothersome.

Every game has a combination of sensible product placement (iPod, Sony gear, like phones and Walkmans), overindulgent-but-fits (Big Mama’s Triumph motorcycle and the Regain 24), or stupid, but funny (Monster energy drink and the Famitsu magazines). It’s a long-running shtick (and don’t get me started on Peace Walker).

overindulgent-but-fits

This is peak Kojima and if a product is incorporated in this way, then I will not mind at all.
