An Update on GNOP! (Fan Creations)
Hi everyone! Earlier this year I remade GNOP! in Flash, as you may recall, and Claude graciously hosted it at GBO. However, many people requested that this be made available in another format, given the limitations with Flash (i.e. its inability to be played on mobile devices).
So, I am happy to announce OpenGNOP!, a continuation of what started with GNOP! Flash. The goals of OpenGNOP! include:
- Support for Flash, HTML5, Windows, and perhaps Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, etc.
- Full screen support
- A codebase that could be reused and extended for other Bungie remakes with a System 7 interface.
- Better, cleaner code for improved performance
- Official approval/support from Bungie (I can hope!)
The source code for OpenGNOP! is here, and you can read a bit about the project on my site here. So far, just about everything that you would need to play GNOP! is in place, but there are bugs aplenty and the "feel" of GNOP! has yet to be dialed in.
Sorry this took so long to get started; I released my own game (which you can check out here and I will never ever plug again) and that delayed this project quite a bit.
If you want to keep up-to-date on OpenGNOP! and my other projects you can follow me on Twitter. Thanks for reading!
An Update on GNOP!
Very cool, I am completely unfamiliar with Haxe, seems fairly interesting.
[Nice work on the new GNOP version too :p]

An Update on GNOP!
But I don't want to cease or desist! :(
Seriously, though, who should I talk to at Bungie about this stuff? It'd be nice to have "official" support, like with the Pathways into Darkness thing a while back. If you guys are into that.

Heh - I wonder who actually holds the rights to GNOP? Seropian created it on his own; seems feasible that it's not a standard Bungie license.
An Update on GNOP!
Seropian said on Twitter, in regards to my request for the GNOP! source code, and I quote, "whoa - talk about a relic! I wouldn't even know where to look first - let alone contemplate who owns that code now!"
Plus, Bungie's name is on it, even though it seems to pre-date Bungie's creation, per the official timeline. So far, I've just assumed it's Bungie's. It would be nice to have this cleared up, but Bungie is working on bigger and better things right now. :)
