What happened? (Destiny)
After Bungie fought so hard to become independent from Microsoft in 2007 and subsequently partnered with Activision in a deal structured to retain their ownership and control of the Destiny IP, this seems kind of strange.
Sony is a good fit for them, though, and I have high hopes that this will support the long-term development of the Destiny franchise.
Real talk: the primary shareholders of Bungie are all getting up there in age and probably wanted to cash out their share while they can still enjoy the money.
As far as I can tell, this deal, as a side effect, likely finally removes Marty from Bungie legally as his share would have been bought out in such a deal.
what's interesting is there's no mention if NetEase's share has been bought out, and it almost sounds like Sony didn't buy out NetEase's share/board position.
