Destiny Is A Freaking Troll. (Destiny)

So I get back from the hospital, Shadowkeep pre-loaded, ready to jump in, and bam! No-warning cutscene with the introduction to the Season of the Undying. Right after I promised to help Cody with the missing cutscenes, too. Okay then! So I plug in my capture card, record Shadowkeep stuff, then I hear word about some other cutscene that's going to play when people log in this time. Okay, thanks for the warning, Insane--so I get my stuff ready, and every time I sign on to Destiny 2 for a full week, I press record just in case. 'Yo Destiny, are you going to play that cutscene any time soon?' Sign in to multiple characters, let the notifications pass, try at different points in the week...NOPE.

Fine, whatever.

So I eventually do the 'Beyond' mission in the game. Record cutscenes for that, go visit Eris, yada yada yada. So I don't see any quest markers on my map anymore--Okay, looks like the campaign part of Shadowkeep is over! I figure there must be a cutscene or two for Garden of Salvation, but I am nowhere near high enough for it, so we'll cross that bridge later. I turn my Xbox off, unplug my capture card, and go to bed. Next morning, I turn on, log in and bam. A post-ending log-on Shadowkeep cutscene.

You anus.

TLDR; the cutscenes are more-or-less done, in the worst way imaginable. One had a Rahool mask on, another had a quest step to appear right at the beginning, and I missed two because Bungie are acting like 14-year olds. I think I'll have to try again on my Hunter.

Just don't stop recording… you can always delete it later. If I don't know what's coming I just record for an hour at a time, occasionally stopping and starting a new recording.

There are decisions made in how Destiny interacts with users that I just cannot imagine the reasoning behind.

I will constantly get thrown out of inventory management when a player materializes, even when I'm just arriving in a social space-- which there is NO good reason to do.

But I've twice missed cutscenes because after some in-world event that triggers a cutscene for a player at next login, the cutscene will play IN THE BACKGROUND BEHIND YOUR MENU.

I mean... wtf, seriously

Just because you don’t know the reason, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a good one. I don’t know the reason, either, but I suspect it’s something better than “just to piss off narcogen.”

Honestly, I sort of assumed it might have something to do with syncing to the server, so you don’t accidentally lose gear or something. But it could just be as simple as making sure the player knows the activity has started, which might seem silly, but I honestly bet lots of people would just be standing around in their menus because they didn’t realize they had landed.

The cutscene where the quest step shows up--I'll do what I can to prevent it on my next recording, but if it still shows up, what could I do?

You can turn the HUD off, but I'm not sure if it would prevent that sort of thing or not. There are some things it doesn't override.

I try. You are correct, Bungie doesn't make it easy. The Guerrilla Attack of Cutscenes can be very jarring.

Anywho, since I'VE gone and captured said Cutscene, here it is in GLORIOUS "YouTube Compression Artifacts ".

WOAH!

Thrilling Stuff. Thrill-ing-Stuff.

Appropriately enough this Destiny video starts with a round of that fan favorite, "Contacting Destiny Servers"
