Details from EDGE magazine: (Destiny)
Lore:
- Game is set 150 years in the future
- To counter a pandemic, humanity has discovered how to transplant a human brain into a robotic chassis.
- This process is called “integration”.
- Civil war erupts between integrated humans and humans who resist being integrated.
- Disentigration’s protagonist is a defector from the integrated faction named Romer Shoal, one of the first to be integrated, and a former television host from a show about “Gravcycles”.
- ”Gravcycles” are hovering motorbikes that were built to function as search-and-rescue vehicles, but have since been retrofitted for combat during the war.
- Shoal’s job in the integrated faction was to find and repossess gravcycles for the war effort. He starts selling some of them on the black market to a rebel group called the Human Liberation Coalition (HLC). Shoal is eventually found out and imprisoned.
- Shoal eventually escapes and starts recruiting rebels to his squad, intent on taking the fight to the integrated forces.
Gameplay:
- It’s a first-person shooter with squad-control elements. Players will pilot a gravcycle, while being able to quickly give commands to AI-controlled friendly soldiers.
- Terrain is destructible, allowing you to demolish enemy cover.
- Player & ally health is restored by activating a cool-down ability, or by moving through a cloud of healing nanites that erupts from the corpses of downed enemies.
- If a robotic ally “dies”, it’s brain canister is ejected, and if you don’t retrieve it within a time-limit, the mission fails. If you do manage to retrieve the canister, the ally will respawn after a set amount of time (The article doesn’t mention anything about fleshy meatbag allies).
- The campaign will feature a variety of locations such as the Rocky Mountains, an Arizona desert, and an inland sea on the east coast caused by rising sea-levels.
- The campaign currently has 13 missions, and is estimated at 10-12 hours to complete on average.
- There will be some form of PvP multiplayer, but the article doesn’t describe it in very much detail- It sounds a bit like Assault from Halo, where the objective is to detonate a bomb behind enemy defenses.
Art:
- Every screenshot and piece of concept art shown in the article evokes Lehto’s style that we remember from Halo. Large, futuristic structures, grassy fields, mountains, and plenty of robots with guns.
- Gravcycles look a lot like if the UNSC wanted to build a heavily-armed counterpart to the Covenant Ghost.
I'm dying for another good Sci-fi FPS- they feel so rare of late. Can't wait to see this in action at GamesCom.
I was able to get access to the article with a free trial for the EDGE magazine app on iPad, I recommend checking it out if the above sounds appealing to you.
