I liked Spartan Ops quite a bit. You're spot on, in that the story wasn't exactly great, but it was still a fun thing to do. It was a smart reuse of the campaign play spaces with some new encounters, though, and just a fun thing to look forward to. I'm sad they dropped it for Halo 5, as I think it is a neat way to keep the story going after the main game is over. I understand why it wouldn't be worth the development resources, though.
