Nothing terribly new but it's good to see Activision's CEO fully behind Destiny's goals. And he goes on to explain how Activision's focus is on cross-platform wide scale games, and how they are partnering with retailers to reduce costs for gamers upgrading to next generation hardware and games.

"Hirshberg offered up Destiny, Bungie's upcoming hybrid FPS / persistent world game as a prime example of this trend, and referred to the title as being "born modern" -- a video game and social network rolled into one."

I wonder if that digital upgrade from previous gen to next gen will apply to Destiny.

I remember hearing that Gamestop was offering it for every PS3 -> PS4 game, though I'm not positive about that. Haven't heard anything about XBone variants though.

The last part of that quotation makes it sound like Farmville, jeez.

I think they are trying to bring in casual players with that. In general I trust Bungie to not get too casual oriented, but if they want to make they move then I'm sure they will. I agree though, worrying.

That is a genuinely nice feature!

Buy Destiny for the Xbox 360 or PS3 because you don't have a newer system, but when you GET a newer system you can trade / upgrade to Destiny on the new platform for cheap.

If you can keep your character and loot and stuff, then this is a really awesome strategy.

As long as I don't have to get rid of my 360 version I may do this...

For the Gamestop deal I believe you do have to trade it in.

Honestly though, I don't see a downside to that. I imagine you will be able to easily keep your character via the cloud or some other (likely annoyingly complicated ) licence transfer system. If everything is freely accessible and it is genuinely the same game, I don't see much a downside to only playing it on the One/PS4

That'll really depend on if I can keep playing with my friends who I KNOW won't buy the One/PS4.

That's precisely the downside. If I don't have two copies at launch, I imagine I might wait until the price drops (for digital versions or otherwise) and use this deal to help defer costs.
