I ended up using dodge as a refresh button for my throwing knife. Actually dodging with it was far less useful, I found. It needs to be on a dramatically faster cooldown.
If you read the fine print, you have to do the dodge near an enemy to activate the recharge. Otherwise, it's just a plain dodge and you've used up the dodge charge. This frustrated me because I'd actually have to check if it did indeed recharge my melee.
