"Added ability for players to "wave off" heavy ammo if EVERYONE in the match does the 'Wave' Emote in the first 30 seconds of a round"
Now that's neat... Makes one wonder at the possibilities.

I will never see what this means, because I will never do this.
I mean, if everyone waving in the first 30 seconds meant ONLY Heavy Ammo (for the whole game)... sure. But waving it off? Yeah... no.

I think heavy can really influence a game. A dominant team becomes more dominant. A team behind can catch up with the right push. For those reasons, I understand people who wouldn't do this.
That being said, I often feel heavy ammo is a really cheap way to win battles in the Crucible (especially rockets, which is why I favor HMGs; you have to actually hit your target with an HMG). I could see players who want a match to be defined by a display of greater skill and strategy waving at the start, and I'll be one of them. I know it's incredibly unlikely outside of private matches to get heavy waved off, but it'll be something I do.
I think the smaller game types, especially Trials, would be better off without heavy in the first place. It'll be interesting to see if this has any affect on casual crucible (I doubt it, but still curious to see).
Stoked to be able to use my Trials Coins for something. Glad Xur will have exotic shards again. Some good stuff in this update.

I can see it either way.

You really need to try sniping with the bolt-caster. When you get a distance kill with it I feel just like I do when I map someone with NLB.
I should just start using a sword anyways, so I can peek around corners with my ice cream cone.
Good point

I thought you didn't approve of unfair advantages?

You've never danced/emoted to see around a corner?

I have. Because it's available to everyone. So is a sword.

(But to actually answer your question - no, usually I just go barrelling around the corner and get headshot.)

Wait, isn't that how I'm supposed to play?

Custom Game Workaround for MLG probably
by squidnh3, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, 18:56 (3145 days ago) @ Claude Errera
Personally, I liked it better when there were more heavy drops per game, and when there were 2 boxes in the Trials rounds.

This last weekend's trials on shores of time drove home the point that only one heavy in trials can give an unfair advantage to a particular spawn. If you spawned on A you ALWAYS had easy access to heavy and could trap C spawn from getting a shot at it

Xur selling exotic shards = win
Xur selling stacks of 10 heavy = win
more weapon types dropping after crucible games = less chance for a mapador

On the bright side, I noticed some of the crucible weapons dropping in SRL, so I might get to try some weapons I otherwise would never see.

I'm sad that players auto respawn at the end of a Strike now. I enjoyed punishing people I didn't like playing with by not respawning them and making them miss out on sweet, sweet loot.

I had been trying and trying to get more Days of Iron ornaments but I only had one. I refused to spend real money on RNG to get more. I needed two to turn my horned titan helmet into the firefaced mullet helmet.
I went home for lunch and logged on before the update. I ran one heroic strike and got my package before the update. I opened the package and out pops a Days of Iron ornament.
At least now I can spend my saved up silver dust on that Spec Ops ornament that has also been eluding me.

I'm in the same situation right now. Have 1 ornament, need 2. At the moment, I still have a chance, since SRL is the weekly crucible-ish thing. But once SRL is gone... what are those of us who don't do Crucible supposed to do?

Last night I finally noticed the second page at the silver dust vendor. I was able to dismantle a couple of weapon ornaments I wasn't using, and buy my 2nd RoI ornament!. My Sunbreaker setup now has the flaming chest piece I've been wanting since RoI came out. :)

I don't know why Destiny, unlike every other PS4 game ever, cannot download in the background while your console is asleep.

I didn't know that was an issue...but I'm on Xbox (does Xbox lack this ability too?)...and my entire entertainment system is plugged into a surge protector that I shut off when not in use. So even if it could, MINE can't, cuz I don't leave it on.

The Xbox CAN, but Destiny doesn't

At least on mine it doesn't... :(
Halo 5 constantly updates itself. But other games don't. Not sure why. :(
Destiny's updates go through Destiny itself(excluding DLC), not the Xbox. That's why it's not automatically downloading or during sleep.

Weird. On PS4 the major update goes through the PS4 (but still not in the background), and then when destiny is done launching, it downloads another ~400kb patch through the game that takes literally moments. It's the several hours spent at the PS4 dashboard downloading the 2+ GB patch beforehand that suck balls (and of that time, 90% of it is "preparing to download" whereby it seems that Destiny is checking every goddamn bit of code to find out what version you presently have installed or something).

Same.
by Ragashingo , Official DBO Cryptarch, Thursday, December 15, 2016, 03:57 (3143 days ago) @ Kahzgul
Yeah, that's how the Xbone works. If you launch Destiny right around the time an update has come out the Xbone software says something like "Hey, Destiny needs an update" and clicking ok takes you to the My games & apps section where it then downloads the gigabytes of the update. Then, when you relaunch Destiny that last little bit is downloaded if needed.

Same.

That is 100% exactly what my XBone (which has background downloads disabled) does. I'm not sure what Morpheus was talking about, TBH.
As for whether the big part of the update successfully downloads in the background when that's enabled.... I don't know. I turned that feature off within the first week of having the console.

That's weird. You're talking about the main update that would show up in "My Games % Apps," right? Not the second update that happens while Destiny is logging in?
I don't use the auto-update/always-sort-of-on mode myself (I tried it briefly, and didn't like how much heat my "inactive" console was generating), so I have no experience. But it's weird that it would treat any game differently.

Between several network hiccups (my PS4 getting less than 1 mbps) and having to restart the download multiple times which would trigger the long "preparing to download" process.... it took me all evening to finally get it downloaded.
I'd love for it to update in the background like everything else.

The best advice is that when an update for Destiny goes live, you should go to the Playstation website, and set the PS4 to start downloading anything (free demo, theme, avatar picture, whatever). It should trigger it to start downloading Destiny updates.

Good to know for next time. Sadly it wouldn't have helped at the 111kbps I was getting (over wired ethernet). The only way I was able to finally get it working at a decent rate was to restart the ps4.

Another piece of advice whenever a download gets slow, go to the Settings -> Network Settings -> Test internet connection.
Do that, and it'll refresh the download speed.

You better believe I did that. That's how I knew what speed my ps4 was getting. I sometimes find myself needing to do that when I wake my console and am at the destiny main screen in order to get destiny to recognize it's connected to the internet.
