Has there been a stated reason why SRL can't be permanent? (Destiny)

I don't see why it's not a permanent playlist. Half of Bungie's matchmaking decisions don't make sense to me, but SRL is the most perplexing.

SRL is the McRib of gametypes.

It's probably because they only had two tracks. If it was permanent, I would guess that most people would get burned out and the playlist population would be very low. Once they have 6-8 maps I could see it staying, or at least being a monthly event like Iron Banner.

They might be going the ways of 343 on this one.

Special playlists to boost population for a limited time, etc.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. To be honest, I enjoyed SRL a lot last time and am looking forward to it again, but after a few days, it felt like I had to struggle to get my friends to play it with me. They got burnt out on it too quickly, while I felt like I never got enough of it. So I echo your sentiments, and if anything, my reply was directed as much to myself as it was to you. I am trying to stay positive by reminding myself that at least there is a tiny bit of SRL that will be available after the event is over. Even if I cant get people to play it with me.

Hey I'll totally play it with you after it disappears from matchmaking! SRL is good times.

Why give the people what they want when you can keep it from them and have them treat it like a special, hypeworthy event during its limited "active" window?

The comparison to the McRib is pretty apt.

Scarcity is what makes matchmaking work at all.

Vocal bits of the community are constantly screaming about one thing or another-- either too much SBMM or not enough, lack of dedicated servers, too much lenience on lagged players.

All of those problems are exacerbated by not having enough potential matches in a playlist.

So which other permanent playlist do you want to ditch to make room for SRL?

I think no one would mind if it rotated with the same frequency Inferno does. I completely agree with you, though, that if it were actually permanent, like Control, it would negatively impact the player base.

Agreed. I don't see why it couldn't enter as a revolving playlist, even if it shows up less frequently. Once a year seems pretty ridiculous. Granted, Destiny 2 is gonna be on the way, so I doubt they care that much since for all we know it'll be permanent or semi-frequent there.

Any or all of them, really. I'd play SRL.

I dunno man

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Sunday, December 11, 2016, 22:07 (3146 days ago) @ narcogen

SRL is so different I cant imagine it having a huge effect. For one thing non-PvPers will actually play it. But also I cant see anyone thinking " Man, I really fancy some Crucible, guess I'll fly some sparrows aroumd" or vice versa.

But if you're forcing me to choose, how about Rift? No wait, Supremacy! What's the one with the vehicles? Get rid of that too. And non-Trials elimination while we're at it. And Trials proper too, but we all know how I feel about Trials these days

There's a reason for the McRib's seasonal nature though: Pork Price.
