Dishonored? (Gaming)
Has anyone here played it, yet?
I never played the first one, but Dishonored 2 comes with a code for Dishonored Definitive Edition. I was thinking about picking it up tomorrow. I remember hearing all sorts of good things about Dishonored, and the videos I've seen of Dishonored 2 look really fun. It's rare that I buy a game for full price anymore, but this one is tempting me.
Anyone have anything good or bad to say to help me make a decision. I was also considering Watch Dogs 2. Again, I didn't play the first one, but videos I've seen of the sequel look pretty good.
I'm still just looking for something to fill the Witcher sized hole in my game time. A cheap copy of Mad Max didn't do a whole lot for me, nor did the new Deus Ex. I'm still playing a lot of Civilization 6, but I need something a bit more action oriented to counterbalance it.

I love the gameplay and setting of the 1st one
If you enjoyed the videos you've seen, odds are you'll enjoy playing it too. Story of the first one is surprisingly good (nothing spectacular, though, so keep your expectations according). Shit hits the fan pretty fast in the second, according to a stream I usually watch, so you'll definitely want to play the first one first.
The negatives seen to be game crashes on PC (first one wasn't too stable either), but if you're going for console, shouldn't be a problem.

Did you like Thief?
Very, very, *very* similar games. Dishonored is a tad more steampunky and has a (much) more robust combat system, but they're really quite similar, right down to the engine and art style.
Personally, I really enjoyed Dishonored, and yet I also never actually finished it. Weird.

Did you like Thief?
I like one of the older Thief games, don't remember which. I never played the newest one.
Preliminary impressions of Dishonored 2 look good (other than the problems it seems to have on PC), so I suppose I'll pick up a copy of the first game for cheap to test the waters, then move on to the sequel if I enjoy it.

Love it
The first Dishonored is in my top 10. One of the things I love about it is the ability to truly play however you want from super stealth to super murderous. There are few experiences in gaming that are more satisfying to me personally than completing a no-kill, Ghost (never even detected by enemies) run. Both of the story DLCs were very good as well. I am really looking forward to playing Dishonored 2, just trying to decide if I should stick with my plan to replay the first one (and DLCs) again first.
(FWIW, it is highly recommended that you play 1 before 2, as well as the DLCs - especially the Brigmore Witches since one of the central characters in 2 has more background coming from that DLC than even the main campaign).
Edit: I figured it might help your decision to point out the immense amount of replayability as well - especially for Dishonored 2. Playing through as a killing machine is very different than going the full-on stealth route. And the amount of options and choices to be made in terms of the different ways to go with upgrading your powers adds a lot of variety as well. And then you add on the fact that you can play as Corvo or Emily in 2 (and they each have pretty different power options)... actually even in 1, the Knights of Dunwall DLC has you playing as Daud with some of his own variances in abilities from Corvo.
I really can't say enough about how much I like Dishonored and how much I can still go back to it over and over again.

Love it
I actually picked up Dishonored 2 yesterday. Used the code to download the first game and am playing through it now, and I'm really digging it. I'm not too far in--I just killed the Overseer. I'm trying to stealth it, but I still usually end up screwing something up and getting into a huge fight.

Dishonored?
Just ordered the limited edition with the goodies, which I'd sworn off of, but I love the original so much, and word is that the new one improves on it.

Dishonored?
Is the first Dishonored for XBox 360? Regardless of that, I heard that you can get the code for the first one if you buy the second one, is that true? I would be more likely if there was some kind of deal like that.

Yes to both. First one was originally a 360/PS3 game. It got a Definitive Edition on Xbox One/PS4, which comes with a new copy of Dishonored 2, which is what I did. Worth noting is that the $60 version I bought says "Limited Edition" on the cover, so maybe the free copy of the first game is a limited run thing?

I'm at the point where I just don't play 360 games. I have enough backlog in current consoles to pick up games for the 360... I know, rough life for a gamer.

Just in case you're misunderstanding, you don't get the 360 version of the first game when you buy the new game. The new game and the version of the first game you get with it both run on this generation.

ohhhh, cool. That pretty much solves everything :-D

Do play both!

Oops, yeah, sorry about the misunderstanding.
I've heard a few bad things about Dishonored 2. Mostly on PC, lots of crashes, bugs, and just seemingly bad optimization (folks with 1080s dropping frames all over the place), but also a some crash reports on PS4, too. Not sure how prevalent it is, but it's maybe something to look into before buying. Hopefully there'll be a patch if it's needed by the time I get to it in a week or two.

Love it
There are few experiences in gaming that are more satisfying to me personally than completing a no-kill, Ghost (never even detected by enemies) run.
Every MGS game but the first both allows, and offers rewards for this.

I've never played a MGS game, but I really don't know why I haven't... Maybe I need to get around to it sometime soon. Any recommendations on where to start? Games to skip or make sure not to skip? Important to play them in any certain order?

Play them in order of release, because they are very story heavy. The only special instructions I have are this:
When the credits begin to roll in MGS4, turn off the game immediately. Don't watch the post credit sequence.
That's it.
