by CyberKN ⌂ @, Oh no, Destiny 2 is bad, Monday, August 22, 2016, 14:39 (3024 days ago)

aka the 7 year anniversary of Halo 3: ODST's launch.

But seriously:

Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

[Marketing speak]

If you do not wish to continue your subscription, please be sure to cancel it by turning off auto-renewal in your account settings before September 22, 2016.

At the moment, you can still pre-load time onto your account for the old, lower price.

To be fair, 99% of the time you can find a sale for $40 through Groupon, Newegg, or Amazon. Though I worry that their new sales will be for $50 from here on out...

(There's a great story about the last time that I got six cards that were on sale for $30, but that's a long, complicated tale for another day...)

I find they go on sale much less frequently than the 12-month XBL cards.
