Yeah, but Halo doesn't have an achievement for splattering 30 people in one game with a single Regenerator.
POST EDIT: Not achievement, quest. You know what I mean.
But now that I think about it, there actually were achievements you could get in custom games. In fact, there were several that you could ONLY get in custom games.

So, farm customs for rank up packages? I'm guessing that "crucible rep" also means "faction rep" since they are interchangeable depending on the class item you have on?
I noticed in the stream that you can change "minimum score to win." i wonder if it's set values, or could you rig it to be essentially 1 kill and just trade off winning/losing every other game for rep?

- While alive in a Private Match, enter Navigation Mode by pressing the Touchpad(PlayStation 4) or the View Button(Xbox ONE).
- Use the D-Pad to view the Scoreboard.
- Hold Right on the D-Pad to switch teams.

Not a bad thing, since that's what 90% of Call of Duty players play. Fun anti-camper gametype.
So, for those of us who don't play CoD... what's that mean?

So, for those of us who don't play CoD... what's that mean?
by Schedonnardus, Texas, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 15:42 (3010 days ago) @ dogcow
Headhunter?
kind of. when you die, you drop an engram.
red = enemy engrams
blue = friendly engrams
you don't get points for kills until the engram is picked up. you can deny the enemy points by picking up friendly engrams
So, for those of us who don't play CoD... what's that mean?
by Kahzgul, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 15:43 (3010 days ago) @ dogcow
If it's exactly like CoD:
Kills = 50 points.
Whenever someone dies, they drop an engram at the location of their death.
Picking up your teams engram = 0 points, but it's off the map.
Picking up enemy engrams = 100 points.
The game mode favors mobility and close quarters combat over ranged map control and camping. That being said, the most effective play is to have one or two snipers holding the enemy in a confined zone with 4-5 teammates running as a group to pick up all of the tags.
It's Clash, but to get points you have to pickup engrams
by Durandal, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 15:41 (3010 days ago) @ Korny
So Kill Confirmed/Supremacy is Clash, but to get points for the kill you need to pick up the engrams dropped by your dead opponents, and pick up engrams dropped by your allies when they die before your opponents do.
This is a better mode for lower skill players, since they can focus on engram retrieval as opposed to direct kills. It also encourages very strategic play since the last player alive usually reaps a good tally of engrams, unless the other team sacrificed themselves to clean up.
Also, those godlike snipers? they have to go get the engrams, so sniping from cross the map is less viable. If it's like COD there is a good chance the engram will disappear after about 20 seconds.

Actually kind of disapointing
by electricpirate , Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 16:31 (3010 days ago) @ CyberKN
Private matches in Halo were all about house rules and weird gametypes. While I"m sure we can do some of that in Destiny, it's kind of disappointing that they didn't include anything past the most basic match modifications.
One reason Bungie has put themselves in this crazy content box, is that ALL destiny content flows from Bungie out to the players. The players ability to create content of their own was a pretty key part of Halo's longevity. Destiny has really eschewed this, even 2 years later, which is sad.
Obviously, you can still just agree on some shit, but there's something very powerful about building the options into the system.

by Schedonnardus, Texas, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 16:38 (3010 days ago) @ electricpirate
i'm guessing for a myriad of reasons (staff departures, scrapping vanilla and starting over, etc) that a lot of fat was trimmed, and they are just now to the point to where they can start thinking about the luxury items that really should've been included from the beginning.
I see this as a positive. Remember, we are still on Destiny 1 and they are adding private matches (apparently to all current-gen players, not just those who buy RoI). This bodes well for what should be in Destiny 2 at launch, and hopefully it only gets better from there.
I bet we eventually get full customization, as well as forge in Destiny 2/3.

I think electric pirate correctly identified something deeper than that. It's not just about having options and stuff. He is talking about the philosophy of the game itself. A game set up to take from you.
They also missed one of the coolest uses for custom games: trying out guns. In a custom game, why shouldn't players be allowed to set what guns they take in, regardless of whether they have them in PvE?

Huh. Looking back, even Halo 1 had crazy custom gametype options. I'm pretty sure you have a solid point there, but we also have to consider how little sandbox Destiny actually provides.
We don't have Active Camo, Overshields. We don't have restricted weapon sets. The further you could go is go crazy on modifiers, but somehow I feel it's not enough.
I want a heavy-ammo-only mode

It would be neat if they let you add modifiers to change things up. Add airborne and grounded to keep everybody hopping like bunnies. Or add elemental damage bonuses to make players prefer certain weapons. We might not have as many options as Halo did, but it would still provide for some interesting game types.

a few things that would be cool in customs:
- movement speed
- gravity
- ability recharge time (maybe this is already included? due to mayhem)
- infinite heavy ammo (or even just starting with heavy)
- swords of crota (Swords + Rift = griffball)
- scorch cannons
- juggernaut

- scorch cannons
Completely forgot about those. Should be fun with vehicles thrown in the mix.

Those are the ones I feel are not possible. Maybe Griffball if we honor ruled it with infinite heavy ammo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Forge ship with Halo 3? Which was a solid 6 years after the first Halo was shipped? I mean, I want it too, but let's not use the Halo time frame as evidence that we should have had it yesterday when it actually took Bungie forever to release tools for the community. A better example might be the Myth or Marathon tools.
In any case, Bungie has a very long history of releasing tools for their games, so I suspect it will happen eventually. But Bungie has never released tools for a franchise in less than two years. And if Bungie decides it's not economical for them to do it with Destiny, or they decide they'd rather work on other things, I'll respect that as well.
Obviously, you can still just agree on some shit, but there's something very powerful about building the options into the system.
Agreed. I think it'll come :)

Forge landed in 3, but both one and 2 had some really powerful options you could use to create custom gametypes. For example Halo CE let you basically make one bomb out of CTF, and Halo 2 had tons of great modes created out of it (Tower power was a favorite of mine).
I actually would be less keen on a Halo3/reach style forge, as I thought they were never fully realized as platforms, though they had a few cases where they were very important. But those gametype options were amazing for creating house games and general weird stuff. (Favorite: 400% shields, rockets, KOTH damnation. SUMO WRESTLING)
The difference now is in philosophy and where bungie wants to devote resources. While this is a step in the right direction, there isn't enough here to make me think they've actually modified their approach at all, hence my disappointment.

I think it's great that custom games are finally being added. Definitely going to provide some fun opportunities.
I do wonder; how much time will people actually spend playing custom games, knowing that there are no loot rewards? There are the obvious scenarios: Tournaments, the occasional DBO vs DBO event, etc. But I wonder how many players will be willing to sink substantial time into custom matches. I could actually imagine a situation where a year from now we look back and realize that custom games ended up being one of the most wanted features that actually gets used very rarely. Especially when we think about how important "God rolls" can be to the hardcore PvP players. Outside of the occasional tournament, I bet most of those serious PvP players will be reluctant to give up the opportunity for drops, in the long run.

Progression and Reputation
Progress may be earned in Private Matches toward Daily Crucible Bounties and Test Weapons received from the Gunsmith.
Progress MAY NOT be earned in Private Matches toward Quests, Record Books, or Weekly Bounties.
All participating players will receive 30 Crucible Reputation upon completing each Private Match. This can be increased with the Crucible Champion perk found of some Class Items, however Crucible Reputation Boosters will have no effect.

Remember Reach. Custom games had a nearly nonexistent cR payout, but were still super popular.
That said, Halo 4 & 5 didn't have very popular Custom Game options, and weren't really played all that much, so I guess it's all about how fun the game is on its own.
I can't imagine that "hardcore PvP players" make up the majority of the community. Plus, honor rules have always existed, so if you want, you can have a Khvostov-only match if you're playing with friends.
I'm curious...

Reach's unlock system didn't involve elements that directly effect gameplay (armor and weapons), plus Reach's custom options were way more diverse and fully-customizable than what is being added to Destiny. So I don't think it's really a fare comparison.
I could see custom games becoming more popular over time; everyone will be clamouring for new gear right after the expansion launches, but as the months go by and drops become less important, perhaps customs will see more action.
To be clear, I don't want anyone to think I'm down on custom games or anything like that. I'm just interested in how the psychology of the player base shakes out.
I found my self thinking about this too

I've literally *never* played Non-IB Crucible for drops

I play it for fun. Sometimes I get a bad gun at the end (they're all bad guns. Because Y2 perks are crap) and dismantle it.
Of course EVERYBODY wants it!!!

Just like everyone wanted pub chat...

I think this is a bit more valuable, if only for the ability to use the multiplayer maps for videos and weapon / ability testing and tournaments.
nah

I think actually most people didn't want public chat. Who wants to listen to kids yelling in their ears all day or being called a nigger by some punk who thinks racist comments are cool?
Is there an archived or youtube stream thingy?
