Okay, so it's not exactly an original NES, but it's still neat! November 11, $60, 30 games.
I have never played the original Zelda or Super Mario Bros--it may be worth grabbing just for that.
Edit: Found the list of included games:
- Balloon Fight
- BUBBLE BOBBLE
- Castlevania
- Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
- Donkey Kong
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
- Dr. Mario
- Excitebike
- FINAL FANTASY
- Galaga
- GHOSTS’N GOBLINS
- GRADIUS
- Ice Climber
- Kid Icarus
- Kirby’s Adventure
- Mario Bros.
- MEGA MAN 2
- Metroid
- NINJA GAIDEN
- PAC-MAN
- Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
- StarTropics
- SUPER C
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- TECMO BOWL

I'm pretty excited about this.

No, unfortunately. Just an emulator in neat packaging.

A company does make one that plays NES, SNES, Gensis, GBC, and GBA games though:
Had one at the call center I worked at several years ago (though I think that one didn't play GB games), worked great.
Nope

As others have said it is an emulator.
However, you can still buy a real honest to goodness NES.

I'm pretty sure I still have mine buried in my attic somewhere. I should see if I can find it.
I also had two systems my uncle gave me. They were knockoff systems he bought in the 80s while working in Saudi Arabia. They had Nintendo style controllers and light guns. They took cartridges but also came preloaded with a bunch of I assume pirated games. One system had 800 games and the other had 1200 games loaded. A bunch were Nintendo games with weird modifiers. Some were in Arabic and I had no idea what was going on. I wish I knew where those systems were.
I still have mine

Sadly, a friend's spiteful older brother tricked me into swapping a lot of my games for some worthless junk. Still have MegaMan 2 though.

At least I can finally complete Zelda II.
Full story: We "had" an NES console and some games when I was a kid, loaned from some family I don't remember. One of the games was Zelda II, and I played it a bunch, but only the first 1 or 2 areas over and over because the save function was broken. It's the only Zelda game I've ever played.
Only one MegaMan title?

Yeah.
by stabbim , Des Moines, IA, USA, Thursday, July 14, 2016, 23:49 (3060 days ago) @ ProbablyLast
This is true, but to me it'll be worth a few bucks to play them with an NES controller. Assuming they do a decent job of making it feel right.

These are actual retro games, not the fake stupid retro indie games people are used to seeing. A lot of the games in the list are made with a huge amount of skill and talent, and are in their respective genres great games.

by cheapLEY , Thursday, July 14, 2016, 23:18 (3060 days ago) @ red robber
Not significantly, no. I've played a bit of it here and there, but not enough to feel like I really played and understood the game. ):
I had an Atari when I was young, then got a Genesis, then got a Nintendo 64, etc., etc. I basically missed NES and SNES completely, other than the few games that I actively sought to go back and play later in life.

It's the same with me for Zelda. Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I ever played. I loved it. After Majora's Mask, I borrowed a friend's SNES and played A Link to the Past and loved it. I never was able to go back and play the original Zelda or Zelda II. I'd love to, though. I could have emulated it sure, but those never feel right without the proper controllers, and, honestly, I just couldn't be bothered.
Here's to hoping this thing does gang busters and we get a mini-SNES!

Nintendo gave up on making a new console

I do wish Nintendo would just hurry up and pull a SEGA and abandon making hardware (I know, it's not going to happen). I want to play the new Zelda, but not enough to buy a Wii U or NX for it. I'm completely uninterested in basically everything else they do--one game is not enough to sell me a console.

Pokemon Go?
by unoudid , Somewhere over the rainbow, Thursday, July 14, 2016, 23:46 (3060 days ago) @ cheapLEY
I think Pokemon Go might be the push they needed to ditch their consoles. Build games for other platforms + license the crap out of their characters = profit?

Yeah, I think it's the same with most people. Few people who grew up on Nintendo bought a Wii or WiiU and the younger generation doesn't really know what made Nintendo good. Pokemon Go is the smartest thing Nintendo has done in years.

Yeah, it's just a shame that game sucks. Talk about a walking simulator . . .
FWIW, I think it's great that people are loving it and finding a reason to go outside and walk so much. Personally, I don't want to have my face in my phone while I do that (I hike a lot and walk around outside pretty often--I like taking in the sights). And I also need more gameplay in my video game. I recognize that Pokemon Go just isn't designed for me, but I had hoped there would be more to it.
In all seriousness . . .

IIRC I beat it once. You had to play it on the highest difficulty to get to the end. Brutal, it was, but the roundhouse saw me through.
Still my moment of triumph was a no death Contra run. Yeah, that's right.
Pix or it didn't happen.

I once beat Jordan on Guitar Hero 2 on expert on my friend's Xbox and I was never able to get past 50% ever again. So, essentially I never did it.

Just because you didn't play them doesn't mean they're not worth playing ;)
Four Sonic games, original Ecco, Kid Chameleon, both Vectormans, and the real versions of the Mortal Kombat games (uncensored unlike the Nintendo versions). Not to mention one of the games I was addicted to for months as a kid: Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
All of those are great games, and not even the only ones on there that are good, just the ones I'm interested in. It's just sad that Phantasy Star 3 isn't on the list.

I don't know, I think I agree with cheapLEY on this one.
Ecco wasn't my cup of tea, and though the sonic games are great, I think they're balanced out by the NES' Mario games (which also includes the original arcade game MARIO BROS. *squee!*).
Other than that, Nintendo has got:
Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
Dr. Mario
Excitebike
FINAL FANTASY
Galaga
GHOSTS’N GOBLINS
GRADIUS
Mario Bros.
MEGA MAN 2
Metroid (!)
NINJA GAIDEN
PAC-MAN
SUPER C
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
TECMO BOWL
The Legend of Zelda
All great games that I loved in my childhood. Sure there are games that it doesn't have, like Afterburner, 1942, Metal Gear and Snakes Revenge. But it possesses the majority of it's top-tier games.
The Mega Drive has:
Golden Axe
Golden Axe 2
Golden Axe 3
Motal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Shinobi 3
Streets Of Rage 1
Streets Of Rage 2
Streets Of Rage 3
Good, event great titles to some people, but not nearly as many stellar entries as the NES. More importantly they DON'T have Earthworm Jim, Bubsy, Desert Strike, Granada, TOEJAM AND EARL (unforgivable), Strider, Another World, so many stellar titles that were left out.
Sure the extra controller is nice, but in this day and age of the (nearly) dead couch-coop it isn't the selling point it once was.
If I had to choose one (and with space at a premium these days I might), I'd probably go with the NES mini. Quality over quantity, as it were.

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree completely. Sega and Nintendo in my opinion were actually pretty evenly matched in good titles to play at the time of SNES and Genesis, BUT that emulator-Genesis system doesn't cover even a fourth of them. I was more responding directly to the fact that cheapley was implying there weren't games on it people would want to play. I was not saying I would buy the Genesis one over the NES one (I'd just open my emulator and plug in my Genesis USB controller). I have considered getting the Genesis one mostly for the cartridge support, but haven't had any problems with the Genesis emulator (plus I play quite a few Master System games as well).
FWIW . . .

I don't believe anyone didn't realize it already, but just in case: I was joking. I never owned a NES or SNES, but I did have a Genesis (and I loved it!). Heck, I'd like to play one again at some point, if only just to try to make it past the second damn level of The Lion King.

In his write-up, he says:
In conclusion, the tiny Nintendo looks neat! I don't know that I have any personal use for one, seeing as I already own most of those games in a variety of formats, but I feel strangely drawn to it in a way that will almost certainly translate into me owning one later this year. That's probably dumb of me, but I've come to accept it.
The bolded part rings true to me and a very real way. I guess I'm too impulsive, but dammit, this thing seems neat.
