Even when talking about traveling in relativistic speeds the logistics and calculations required to do something as "simple" as going to the moon is mind boggling. While it definitely talks about other things, if you haven't read (or more accurately struggled) through A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, I definitely recommend it. The illustrated edition helps a little, but it took me reading it 3 or 4 times to even understand the small fraction that I do.
