I've gotten the kill hive majors bounty several times by just sitting above the room that spawns 3 in the Steppes and letting randoms run down and kill them. I've never seen what happened to you. Did you fire any shots into the enemies that other guy was killing?

I was literally just sitting in my menu looking at bounties and the bounty in question finished.

It seems like there are some odd bugs in the implementation of the bounties now. They seem to work on planets they shouldn't and apparently you can get kills by doing nothing now! :P

Is it possible there is some kind of server issue? Maybe you already got the heavy weapon kills and the servers just finally caught up with it?

I would understand if I got credited for "get heavy weapon kills" but getting 5 HW kills in 3 seconds is completely different. So I would be banking on the Server issues.

Did you have fireteam members earning kills for you maybe?

I was thinking that, too, until I noticed he was in the Cosmodrome. There are no Vex there for a fireteam member to kill. I am definitely confused :p

Edit: Doh! I thought he got the heavy duty models bounty, not the heavy weapon kills one. OK, gotta be a fireteam thing, then :p

Yeah, I was totally playing solo. My only guess is at the end of the video you can see a guy off in the distance. Maybe he kill something?
