Get gud, scrubs... (reply)

If you can't use Spike grenades effectively, boy do I feel sorry for you. :T

Haha! I just thought for a second... I wonder if anyone out there has a Spike Grenade Montage... I scoured the internet (AKA, Google and Youtube search for 10 minutes) and I came across 6 clips... 4 of those 6 clips were single kills with the Spike Grenade, recorded around the first 5 weeks of Destiny's release...

2 of those clips are Triple Kills... This is my favorite, not so much because of the video (the guy dies and the other guys clearly don't know what is happening), but because of the comment on the video about how the Striker grenades suck in comparison... Hilarious.

Here is one of the best clips of Spike Grenade usage in the wild...

Anyway... This got me thinking - someone needs to make a Spike Grenade montage. Or a Montage utilizing all of the "worst" abilities in the game. I may try and get some clips...

My Time as a Sunbreaker, and Why I Am Now a Gunslinger (reply)

Incendiary got a big buff in 2.0. They're really strong now and can OHK anyone near the blast center. The dot also has the added benefit of showing you where the enemy is when they duck around cover as you watch the numbers tick. I don't think they're as good as trip mine, but they're really good all the same. I like them a lot for elimination game modes.

Incendiary Grenades are AMAZING (reply)

They bounce around corners or over cover, the burn lasts just as long as Firebolts, the blast radius is pretty big, and they can one-shot from outside Line of Sight, unlike most grenades.

Still not as good as Firebolts, but definitely better than Arcbolt.

I have heard a lot of people who love these - I ran with them a decent amount with my Titan, and I did OK with them. They remind me of Halo Frag grenades, but I always had trouble landing them right with the speed of Destiny. I do think with more time, I could probably get better.

There is a definite skill gap in the game with regards to grenades. Some are SUPER easy to use (Bolt-types, Stick Grenades, Sphere AoE types) and then with sticky and fuse grenades it feels like they have unique skills required. Sticking takes a bit of skill, timing, and correct predicting (or luck!), and the fuse types require a lot of skill, timing, and correct predicting (or luck). I swear for every on purpose Incendiary kill I've got, I have one that happens by complete accident.

It could just be me though. I ran for a long time with Suppression grenades (the other fuse grenade) trying to master them, and I just couldn't get any reliable consistency with them.

My Time as a Sunbreaker, and Why I Am Now a Gunslinger (reply)

I actually completely agree with your assessment. The problem is the super chaining that happens. My hunter (as Gunslinger or Nighstalker) is pretty much always near if not at the top of the scoreboard until late game. Then what's been happening lately is because of supers coming into play everyone gets orbs and more and more supers come out, and I fall behind because while my Hunter can get a ton of kills, it can't always outpace Sunbreakers and Stormcallers constantly getting kills with their supers. I'll even usually end the game with 1-3 higher K/D then everyone above me, and even sometimes the same number, if not more, kills. There absolutely needs to be some balance, but I think it's not a Sunbreaker nerf, I think it's a Hammer of Sol nerf and a Sunbreaker buff (and a striker buff... and a defender buff...).

My Quickly Thrown Together Grenade Tier List (reply)

S Tier
Firebolts - These are mean, especially with burn. They kill recovery.
Trip Mines - Can zone AND kill most targets or leave with a sliver of health. No limit to number of targets as with Arcbolt and Firebolt. Oh, and you can stick guys with these....

A Tier
Lightning grenades - Mean, but most get out after 1 hit of 122. They can last forever.
Arcbolt - Still good, but not as great as pre 2.0
Axion Bolt - Love these, can be run from, but usually they hit.

B Tier
Fusion Grenade - I like Stickies, but they aren't always viable, and stickiness is less so now. Plus blinking out of stickies happens enough to be frustrating.
Magnetic Grenade - See Fusion
Flux Grenade - See Fusion

C+ Tier
Incendiary - Like a frag, fuse still a bit long, blast radius can be unforgiving.

C- Tier
Solar Flare - If playing doofuses these get lots of kills. Beta version of Vortex/Solar should be brought back IMO.
Vortex - See Solar Flare.
Suppression - I know lots of people rave about these... but they are tough to use particularly for what they are raved about most (super stopping). I rarely if ever get hit by or die to these.
Void Wall - Seems to sometimes be OK
Skip Grenade - I hear some who like these, but I don't like them so much and I never get hit with these.
Void Wall - Seems a bit more reliable than the fire wall grenade

WTF Tier
Void Stick Thing - Seriously... This thing is a waste of time. They SUCK.
Fire Wall - "Uh, which direction did you want me to go? Left? OK, I'll come right back to you"
Scatter Grenade - "Uh, do you want me to kill someone? Ok, I'll chill here and wait for you to run past... Then I'll give you a hug"

This is from my own experience, so my play style will factor in. Certain exotics or class perks can move certain grenades across tiers. Haven't used the new Warlock Lightning Grenade.

My Time as a Sunbreaker, and Why I Am Now a Gunslinger (reply)

Heh - I disagree with a lot of this.

I play mostly as a Titan (and a Sunbreaker, these days), with my Hunter (Bladedancing) about a third of the time in crucible. I'll agree that folks run from hammers - so popping at the right time is important. (I get it wrong more than I get it right, which is why I often get one or two (or zero!) kills, with occasional triples and breakers.)

But the Sunbreaker punch is godly. I rarely play a Warlock, so I never had experience with a punch that keeps on giving... but it's SOO satisfying to punch someone who got the drop on you, and watch the DoT kill him over time. (From my death cam, of course. :) ) If I use it the way it's MEANT to be used, he dies, and I'm already somewhere else doing more damage. I don't understand why you say it's weak.

And grenades? I've gotten more Get It Off! medals in the past two weeks than I got in Destiny's first year. Sunbreaker's sticky is awesome.

I'm trying to help you out! Titan buffs man!

Seriously though, I started Destiny as a Warlock - and once you realize what the melee range is there, you realize how much the Titans are being screwed. Titan punch has almost no range. I LOVE the fact that the Sunbreaker melee DoT's. That is a plus I did miss, but the range is very bad compared to the other two classes. This post is mostly about comparisons between the classes. If Titan Melee range was turned to Warlock range for a day... Oh man.

Again, the grenades maybe don't fit my playstyle as well. I do get a lot of stickies with fusions, BUT you have to be in range to get shot at to stick anyone who is paying attention.

In my opinion, trip mines are in a class all their own, especially with the new ahamkara buff... They zone spaces, they OHK most opponents, they last forever, they can sticky, they have a huge blast radius, and they don't have target limits like Arc Bolt and Fire Bolt (Want to hit 6 guys at once, OK!)... Fusions can sticky, but if you miss, they don't do much, and the most they can do is kill one, and barely hurt another person. Incendiary are OK, but the blast radius is unforgiving and the fuse is tricky. I don't think the grenades are bad, just not top tier compared to other grenades.

My Time as a Sunbreaker, and Why I Am Now a Gunslinger (reply)

Why do people not like the grenades? Other than the NEW one, they both can kill all by themselves. That's a pretty HUGE deal in my opinion. Everything else you said I basically agree with, but I love the grenades on the Sunbreaker.

I don't hate the grenades... But they aren't trip mine, arc bolt, firebolt, lightning grenade tier. Fusions can be deadly in the right hands, but they don't have the same kill potential as other grenades (plus to get kills you have to be in the range of the enemy).

Some of the grenades in this game are insane. Some of this is also play style. I just don't find the Sunbreaker grenades in the top tiers of grenades.

I main a titan, use my hunter for PvP. (reply)

Titans are terrible in PvP.

Seriously, warlocks have a shotgun-range melee that can get overshield on hit. Hunters have a melee that's a throwing knife which can have wicked range for a melee (tho' it does require finesse to use well). Titans, the tanks, melee the range of an intimate hug that can get overshield only if it's the finishing blow, oh, and it doesn't proc if you melee them twice to get the kill.

Maybe this could be okay if the titan melee was insanely fast, and recharged much quicker, but it isn't and doesn't and warlocks snipe me with their melees from 1/2 way across the room. It's my opinion that the warlock & titan overshield on hit/kill should be swapped. :) (no, I don't have a bone to pick, no chip on my shoulder-charge either) ;)

This and increased agility is why I use my Hunter in PvP. Maybe I should try my Warlock again. He hasn't been used in PvP or PvE since the Dark Below...

Maybe that's the problem. I was ONLY a Titan for the first 8 months I played (never even created Hunter/Warlock characters). I guess if it's all you know, it doesn't feel short. And because I was used to meleeing at that distance, I never tried meleeing from farther away, even when I had characters that could... so I don't even really know what I'm missing. :)
