Initial Iron Banner Thoughts (reply)

Ha, deal! It's all your fault Squid! Although he did carry us through quite a few wins, so thanks, Squid!

I actually had a couple of bad games in Clash before we started playing, so it was nice to turn things around. It's taken me a while to get the hang of the new weapon meta, and I was doing well with my Zen Moment Hawksaw.

I kinda wish Bungie would make it clearer how matches are actually made in Destiny. I've long harbored suspicions that it doesn't work quite how Halo was supposed to.

I *might* be done with Destiny PvP... (reply)

First of all, they were DLC not expansions.

They were billed as "expansions" from day 1. They were refered to as "expansion 1" and "expansion 2" from the start.
The average DLC pack is 3 or 4 multiplayer maps. Both TDB and HoW featured way more content than that.

Second of all, that absolutely proves my point. To get TTK levels of awesomeness, you need to spend major time and major money. Thus it will cost more to buy. If they couldn't make their DLC interesting before when people paid for it, there's zero hope of it being interesting if people DON'T pay for it.

But we're not getting free content instead of a new major expansion. We're getting it while we wait for the next TTK-level piece of content. Plus you're ignoring the fact that Microtransactions may very well generate more income than DLC sales. People ARE paying for the new content... Just not YOU if you don't want to.

The BEST you could hope for is that the trickle is as good as Dark Below. You see why that's a problem.

No, I don't... not if it's free. I'm totally fine with TDB-level free content from now until the next big thing.

I *might* be done with Destiny PvP... (reply)

I think I read that they had started work on TTK before Destiny even shipped. If that was the case, The Dark Below and House of Wolves would have been created even earlier, before they had time to respond to player feedback or make sweeping changes to the game.

Aside from the enormity of content, TTK was widely praised because of "quality of life" changes and (overall) being kinder to the player in regards to time/grind.

So extrapolating from that, new content created with this new philosophy could be very good, indeed.

Getting a huge drop of content all at once is quite satisfying. But the size of the content drop doesn't dictate its quality--you're confusing correlation with causation there.

Finally, you saying you know exactly what is going to happen is total BS and hurts the rest of your arguments.

I *might* be done with Destiny PvP... (reply)

A couple counter-points:

Not really, because that 'steady stream' has nowhere near the density to make the content interesting or game changing. I know exactly what will happen.

* The year 1 expansions (TDB and HoW), for which we paid $20 a piece, had nowhere near the density to make the content interesting or game changing, either. *EDIT* IMO, of course. Just voicing my own thoughts here.

I'd rather buy an expansion and get emotes for free, rather than buy emotes and get some unspecified but less than expansion amount of content for free.

* You're ignoring the 3rd possibility: you pay nothing and still get semi-frequent updates.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for substantial expansions as well. But I'm basing my expectations on what Bungie has delivered so far. When they've released $20 expansions a few months apart, I've been disappointed by the overall lack of quality and quantity of the content. When they invest heavily on a major expansion (TTK), I've been blown away by what they come up with.

So for year 2, if I have a choice between repeating the year 1 plan, or trying something new (funding constant smaller updates with optional and purely cosmetic microtransactions) while we wait for the next major expansion, I'm happy to at least give option 2 a try. Let's see what they come up with before we write it off, is all I'm saying :)

Initial Iron Banner Thoughts (reply)

I played with a group of DBOers last night. It felt tougher than normal crucible for some reason. My k/d was a tad lower than normal and I had many more sub 1.0 games. It felt like I couldn't finish folks off, maybe that is the small level difference. I'm running around 298 most of the time. There was a little lag, and I had a few occasions where I'd shoot someone with no damage output or severly delayed output.

I really haven't found my goto primary weapon yet. I've been switching between Suros Regime and Hung Jury, but they each fit a specific range and playstyle. I'm missing my super stable pulse rifles like my old Allfate and Hopscotch Pilgrim. I'm also not a fan of Hakke PR's. I don't like the 4 round burst.

Supers I don't have a problem with. I hear the hammer, I run. They are very tough to kill, but I don't feel they are OP. I always ran from GG's and Bladedancers before, so what's the difference now. I killed two or three Hammerbros in my Armor of Light and I smashed a ton of Electric Warlocks with my Fist of Havoc. The Nightstalker is probably the toughest for me, because there's no warning it's coming. Even if they miss the tether will screw you.

It is still fun to play with a group rather than alone, and this is why I prefer IB.

With 7 (more?) maps, rotation will almost never seen equal (reply)

With 7 maps, it doesn't surprise me that a completely random system isn't evenly distributed.
It also doesn't surprise me that if it's not completely random, that what is implemented could make it feel worse for some players.

Either:

1. Bungie attempts to give a group of 12 players the map that they have collectively played the least. The problem is that you could be a player that plays window's court a half dozen times in a row even though you've personally played that map the most.

2. Bungie could be weighting the maps based on knowledge of how fair they are. Perhaps in the lesser played maps one side has a 2% advantage. Alternatively, they could weight it based on fun/frustration. There is no way for us to rate maps on a fun level, but I'd bet large amounts of money that Bungie knows which maps cause players to quit mid-game the most. Perhaps they are deprioritizing those?

Still, I can understand how it's frustrating. I certainly have my favorite and least favorite maps, and it sucks to hop online for a game or two with my limited time and get dealt the maps I'd rather not play.

I've been in that boat in the past... (reply)

FWIW in situations where I'm dying over and over I have to say "hey wait, I need to stop running in". Usually it's because they are waiting for me and I'm trying to hero-mode it as if I had a super up rather than holding back. Occasionally I'm playing against some super hard guys, but usually it's because I'm being inappropriately reckless.

So, lesson 1 if you're dying over and over is to try and not die. be cautious, stick with your teammates who are not dying and things will suddenly get better. I have games where I'm towards the bottom of the totem pole but my K/D ratio is positive. I consider that a win, or at least "not losing for my team".

What headset do you use? (reply)

These. They are older, I got them when I first got my PS4, when there were not many other options out. Sound quality is incredible. Fit really well, at least before my daughter broke one of the sides. I am in the market to get a new one. Right now I have to connect this headset to the controller with the little cable to get voice, which is really annoying. That is a really stupid first world problem I know. The surround sound is great DD surround sound. Battery life is amazing, I usually charge it once a week. There really is no battery indicator, but when its close to dying it will just start beeping repeatedly until it dies or is plugged in. I wouldnt recommend buying this one, unless the newer version has been changed. I cannot adjust chat volume. When the volume is all the way down, I cant hear ANY game sound, Voice always stays at the same volume. It is really annoying because sometimes I need to turn chat up or down, depending on who is talking.

I had an issue with one of my turtlebeach headsets (xbox), It would NOT turn on. It worked great up until one day it wouldnt turn on or charge or anything. It literally just stopped working mid game. It was about 8 months old and I didn't have the receipt, so I emailed Turtle Beach about it. They sent me a box, I sent mine in, then sent me a brand new headset (fresh in the box, with all the cables I didn't send in) free of charge. They also had a coupon in there. Between this and the reasonable prices, I love them. Alot of people have a problem paying 200 dollars for a headset, which is understable. But the quality, durability, and support of the product was well worth it. I had a PS3 wireless Stereo Surround sound headset for my PS3 (same age as my turtlebeach) and besides the obvious difference in sound quality (Dobly Digital vs Stereo) they could match up. Battery sucked, voice quality was nothing good, the fabric was cheap, and started coming off about 2 months after purchase.
