So the damage reduction is apparently based on the light level of the weapon compared to the overall light level of the target player. Thus rendering any year 1 weapons inferior by reducing their damage by roughly 30%. My data all comes from a reddit thread about this.

Expect to see a lot of Red Deaths running around in IB this week, folks.

I love using that in the crucible. Mine dropped at 305 so its helps in the light department.

So far it is the only one I have found useful outside of the raid/taken hunting. The Scout Rifle is good, Sniper Rifle is good too, but neither are useful in the crucible.

That seems pretty logical. I just messed around with Tower Ghost to see where my levels were. I will be 298 at my lowest character, and that is using gear that I WANT to use, not my highest light gear. I think alot of people are going to try and maximize gear, and end up using crap raid weapons.

Heh - the only raid weapon I have is the heavy machine gun... and it's far from crap in crucible. ;)

Bonus damage doesn't really mean much if you are using a weapon you can't hit anyone with :-)

I wonder how attack and defense values play into this. I would assume the 5% reduction would be on top of any defect in the attack or defense, so if you have a 170 atk weapon it would do half as much damage at an even level as a 300, give or take. So an old 170 messenger would take four bursts to kill a 300 def character, and perhaps 5 when there is a level difference?

What really gets me is that it's really not that much of a change in damage per 10 light. I mean really.

Looks pretty straight forward. 10 units of light equals about 1 of the level deltas. So it looks like if you are 300 or higher, you should be fine, and wont get completely obliterated by 310s. based on the graph, looks like anything 285 or higher should be OK.

So basically what I got from the graph was: For every 10 light, you either do 2.5% more/less damage. Is that it? So if I'm 290 light and I'm fighting a 310 light level guy, the does 5% more damage to me, that seems like nothing. And he even says:

so it’s worth noting that the Power Curve for The Taken King is more aggressive than any previous release for the first 3 levels or so.

Am I way off or is this actually correct?
