RNG is waaaaay kinder now (reply)

I'm sure it's a great setup for some people, however, it's definitely not a fun way for me to play. I now have a forced daily to-do list if I want to be able to infuse an item or buy anything from a vendor.

And that really is a bummer, I get it. That's how I felt before 2.0. I had to do stuff I didn't want to for really long periods to get any marks, and I was basically locked out of one subset of gear because I didn't play Crucible often. I never had the Crucible Marks for any Faction Gear or Crucible Gear (I'm STILL not Rank 3 in Crucible on my most played character).

I agree the current system is a problem for a lot of folks, and they need to find a way to have a happy medium. Rewarding 3 or 5 or whatever per strike, even if it's only on the Heroic Playlist would be an improvement.

Also, I obviously haven't played enough to really tell, but Crucible players are doubly screwed, because Legendaries don't drop nearly as frequently as Crucible rewards than they do from Strikes.

I honestly don't know how they can fix it and find a nice medium, other than just implement both of the systems they have used. You would have all sorts of avenues for Marks. I guess they argument is that you could earn way too many Marks too easily, but I still don't see why that's an issue at all, and it's not something that needs to be limited. With the new soft cap wallet system of holding marks, I don't see it being an issue.

RNG drops should not be how we earn marks though (reply)

Yeah, but that was only 100 of any given marks on any given character meaning it always took two weeks to buy a weapon. Now you can buy a weapon in five days without worrying about RNG and without having to play 30 Crucible games. Personally, I felt like I had to push myself to play enough Crucible to hit the 100 mark limit and then had to wait a day or two only to push myself again to get that next 50.

I do think Legendary Marks should be rewarded for doing more things but also believe you should do your daily story mission, and by golly like it, then do whatever you want knowing that you'll almost always come out a bit ahead. :)

RNG is waaaaay kinder now (reply)

If you want to Earn your marks it now takes 30-40 minutes to earn 30 where it used to take 2-3 hours. After that it slows down a little, but you get Legendaries much, much more frequently now, and from a wider variety of sources.

For my money the fastest route to Legendaries is Court of Oryx, but with RNG 2.0 it's virtually guaranteed that you'll get a couple an hour.

Unless I'm getting two legendary items per crucible/strike match then it's not even close to giving the same amount of rewards. RNG does seem kinder in general. But with 2.0 I can not earn marks nearly the same as before.

Nightfall + Weekly Heroic = 25 marks (75 total for all characters) now you can earn 30 total on weekly heroic strikes.

Public Events used to give you 4 marks per gold, now they give 0

High level strikes used to give you 6 marks per strike. Now you only get up to 30 per week for the weekly heroic strikes.

By doing all of the new weekly and dailies (every day) you can earn a total of 270 marks, 210 of those are forced by doing the daily playlist activities. I really dislike that they have essentially taken away our choice of how we play if we want to earn marks. I'm not a huge fan of doing daily missions, nor do I want to play a crucible gametype I don't enjoy with other people who are probably only playing that gametype because they want to earn marks also.

I'm sure it's a great setup for some people, however, it's definitely not a fun way for me to play. I now have a forced daily to-do list if I want to be able to infuse an item or buy anything from a vendor.

I don't really know how it happened. I just got a lot of Legendaries I guess. Court of Oryx T3 is a guaranteed 1-3 Legendaries, and I did like 6 of those, plus I had a lot of blues decrypt into Legendaries too.

To be clear: you might be guaranteed (I'm not sure about that term ;) ) Legendaries if you're the one USING the Antiquated Rune... but there are zero guarantees for playing T3 if you're just there, and shooting. I've had dozens of runs (where I didn't have any runes to burn, I was just playing along on someone else's rune) where I got a single blue on T3.

RNG drops should not be how we earn marks though (reply)

relying on RNG to drop a purple engram, or waiting for RNG to decrypt a blue into purple should not be how I am expected to "earn" marks. I get that I miss out on easy marks by not doing the daily stuff everyday, it's just frustrating to go from easily earning 200-400 marks per week by just playing the game how I wanted to play

I have basically completed all of the quest lines on my Hunter and now the rate that I earn legendary marks is incredibly slow.

At 3-5 Marks per dismantle, plus loads of blues that might turn purple.

Based on the number of Marks I got I must have picked up 25+ Legendaries yesterday from Strikes and Court of Oryx.

That's not gonna happen every day, but I was amazed at how quickly the Marks stacked up.

I think for a lot of folks (myself included), the new system works a lot better. The old system rewarded long periods of play. Yeah, you could jump into a quick crucible match and get a few marks here and there, or run a strike and get a few, but to hit the cap you had to do either activity for hours on end.

Now, even if I don't play every day (and I don't play more than two or three times a week), I can earn 30 marks in fifteen or twenty minutes every time I log on. The sort of time investment required before to earn 30 marks was much longer than that.

I can understand not wanting to do the Daily Mission, but I happen to really enjoy going through them, so it's great for me. And I don't like Crucible all that much, but it's not bad to jump in for one quick match for the Marks.

I try and make it a point most times I play to just knock out those two activities before I log off. I've actually ended up having some good times in Crucible, because when I finish doing whatever I'm doing with my Fireteam, I just tell them I'm going to do the Daily Crucible and Mission, and they decide to tag along. I've played Crucible more now than I ever have before, and with folks that I normally probably wouldn't, because of the new system, and that's a good thing in my book.

I can completely understand how it works better for people who play less than I do.

For a frame of reference, here are our playtimes for comparison.
248 hours wasted on Destiny for CheapLEY
1228 hours wasted on Destiny for unoudid

My typical week pre TTK was to log on Tuesday nights, do Nightfall x3, then usually follow that up with the weekly heroic x3. Wednesday-Friday were usually 1-2 raids, then the weekends I would do a lot of strikes or crucible. Really whatever the people I would play with wanted/needed to do. I would find it very easy for me to hit the 100 mark cap just by playing the game.

Now, I am needing to do stuff out of my normal play style in order to earn any marks. I'll still get an easy 30 marks from running the heroic strikes, but besides that, I'll get a few here and there from playing the daily crucible if it's on a day that I want to play crucible. otherwise I just won't play them.

I really think there is a happy medium between the old style and the new style. Adding marks back to nightfall would help for one. Maybe adding some small quantities of marks back to the heroic playlist? maybe give 3 marks per strike after the initial 10? Or add 2-3 marks back to crucible matches?

I just find it frustrating that for someone who plays the game way too much as-is to be so mark poor due to them making you do the daily activities in order earn marks.
