I ran it with someone who had already run it. The boss still drops engrams, but he only got 2 motes in the post game screen. I got the Dead Orbit cloak and our other teammate got strange coins. Kinda lame rewards.

Yeah, didn't they said they did that so you wouldn't have to run it 3 times on 3 different characters? Now they let you run it 3 times on 1 character, if you like, I think....

Sadly that only applies to the Heroic strike and weekly Crucible game type (both of these are account-wide weekly rewards). The Nightfall reward is still character specific for some reason (at least according to Reddit-I haven't done any nightfalls yet).

Not sure if this has been said before, but if you jump into a nightfall to help a buddy or whatever, you still get sweet loot out of it from the boss drops at the end (just not the "activity reward" in the rewards screen). I scored a couple of purple engrams helping buddies last week.
