I have a 250 attack value hand cannon that only does 1300 on crit. Granted that's to a level 40 strike boss, but still... how did you get 5k???

The damage really increases rapidly when you start upping the attack value.

I had a green void rocket launcher doing more damage the Gjallarhorn. I had have a green hand cannon that does 3600 damage to Taken on critical, and they were higher level!

I dunno, from where I'm standing old gear becomes obsolete really quickly.

Blew the heck out of the first few missions. I think not a single Major/Ultra held more than 3 shots.

Just a quick note about Gjallarhorn (I'll avoid any story spoilers).

I played through the TTK story missions today, using all new weapons and armor as I acquired them. By the time I got to the final mission, I was struggling against some of the groups of major opponents. I was switching back and forth between a half dozen blue-level heavy weapons (all rated 200-210). Out of curiosity, I switched back to my 170 Gjallarhorn and proceeded to rip through the final encounters and the boss with no trouble at all.

It appears the rumours of Gjallarhorn's demise were greatly exaggerated :)

So bare that it mind: if you're struggling, Gjallarhorn is still the "win button", at least until we start to acquire new legendaries and exotics. On the flip side, if you're looking for a challenge, you might want to avoid Gjallarhorn. It's still OP as heck, at least for the normal mode story content.
