Engram contents are decided when you acquire them. You will get the exact same stuff if you decode them a month from now. There's no point in saving.

Not true. Armors now decode based on the class that has them decoded. If you get a helmet Engram as a Warlock, and your Hunter decodes it, it will be a Hunter helmet (or Ascendant Energy).
Also, the way they work has changed further, I think (remember when TDB dropped and they would all turn Blue?).

With the huge inventory overhaul and removal of existing Light levels, who knows how it'll work.
