Blew your mind enough to send you running for clues, huh? Heh...

Tricks aside, I still think your claim was somewhat dishonest. Any class (except Blade-dancer LOL) can generate that many orbs with the right gear (and against the right enemy type. Let's see you pull that stunt off against cabal next :P).

Not exactly a trick since I've been explaining it to people since December (I wear the melee variant on my Titan). My Warlock helmet has a similar effect against Vex, while I have separate sets of gauntlets for Fallen. Build a class wisely and you aren't burdened by caps, but the Sunsinger is definitely King in this regard.

Also, no other class except maybe a Defender could generate orbs anywhere near that fast.

Also, if orbs are your thing, you might try giving the Defender class a whirl. It's skill-tree appears to be designed specifically for orb generation.

I don't run a Corrective Measure on my Defender for nothing. I've also gotten around to leveling up my No Backup Plans.
Point is, you play with me, you're getting Orbs.

Geez. HBO hit a million posts years ago. I guess we are a lot smaller :-p

DBO forums have been around for a little over two years. HBO Forums have been around for over 16 years.

That said, they are averaging roughly 200 posts per day over their lifetime, while we here at DBO are at 88.

I'd love to see Posts per year for each forum to know when the peaks were over at HBO. I don't however care to datamine it by hand to figure it out :)

Edit: Actually, I can quickly tell that we are about on pace with HBO given similar time frames. I don't expect it to keep up though. I feel like the community of websites surrounding Destiny is a lot more diverse here in 2015 than it was back when HBO hit the scene.

^THIS^ (reply)

Not to invalidate all the speculation about playstyles that might contribute to orb generation being out of balance, because most if not all of them are valid, but... I feel like solo sessions probably contribute a lot more for most players. The balance of orb generation might be off one way or another in team play, but it's off by 100% when you're completely alone, and probably still off by some amount even in public areas.

Also, certain classes and setups inherently generate more orbs. You can be a team player all you want, but your bladedancer still isn't going to put out nearly as many orbs as a defender.

Anyway, it's an interesting statistic to be aware of, but I'm not sure it's possible to draw any real conclusions about someone's playstyle.

I'd argue a high number isn't good (reply)

caveat - I'm biased due to having a low number.

First, can we agree that the ideal situation is where I pick up 5 orbs, and immediately produce 5 orbs, rinse and repeat for the entire match? That scenario, though unrealistic, would produce a net difference of zero orbs. A game where I produce 4 times as many orbs as I pick up is a game in which I could have done even better if I got just picked up more orbs.

So what prevents the ideal situation?

Given that there are more orbs on the field to pick up than we produce (except for FFA and likely ToO), what prevents us from picking them up and using them? Two things:
1. Death. Potential orbs to pick up disappear when you die.
2. Super is full. You can't pick up orbs with a full super.

So, two potential ways to get closer to the ideal are to:
1. Not die until you have picked up as many orbs as possible
2. Use your super as soon as possible.

With this single goal in mind (and it's not the only or best goal, of course) the worst case is to hold unto your super for a while, and then use it in a suicide run at the enemy.

The stat that matters way more would be Orbs produces per minute, and orbs picked up per minute. That would tell you how effective you were at dishing supers and filling back up.

An aside - The net orbs produced will likely always be higher, given that producing orbs is not actually dependent on picking orbs up, given that supers fill up slowly on their own. Also, having produce 5000 more than picked up may not be bad at all, if you've produced 100,000 overall. But if you've produced 90 more than picked up, having only produced 100 total, you might want to reevaluate your game play.

Considering that Korny and I have nearly the same number, I'd say it's not a very meaningful number.

I'd argue a high number isn't good (reply)

A high number might not be so bad either:

- A Voidwalker with that one helmet and Bad Juju can very easily refill their Nova Bomb just by Supering even a small group of enemies. They'd tend to go highly positive since it's a lot rarer that they need orbs.

- A Defender Titan can be set to generate a ton of orbs. Two guaranteed per Super, where things like Nova Bomb or Golden Gun might not make any. Five per Super if the Defender is under any real amount of fire. Then, they can make a ton of orbs even in a short mission just by punching enemies. On top of that they can have a decent change to make orbs with each heavy kill the get. In a busy level, especially a Hive level, a Defender can flood a room with orbs.

- There are some armor pieces that let you make orbs on kills. For a long time I used a piece of Crota gear that let me get a chance for an orb when I killed Hive with headshots. Those would just kinda happen as I played and would largely go unnoticed by me since I'd never see the orbs directly.

- Those who play low level stuff more often would generate more orbs than someone who does mainly Nightfalls and Raids. Enemies get so tough and powerful that Supers become underpowered and orb generation rates go way down.

I have no idea how I'm at +10,000 though! I play a Defender mostly, but I don't punch all the things all that often...
