I honestly usually appreciate his tone. Bungie has always been a little condescending and border-line insulting, it's part of the way they work, which I always find much more genuine than companies who acts like a parent comforting their child (and often don't end up making any changes).

I thought "nah..." and just went through the community guys I can remember vividly. Soell was like that. Frankie was like that. Lukems was definitely like that. KP wrote those things for like 6 months and he was like that. Uhhhh...I don't have any clear memories of anyone else.

I have disliked the tone of his writing for some time. I'm not sure when my feelings changed, but now everything he writes sounds condescending to me. This quote from the article sums up my feelings pretty well:
"Personally, I’m bugged more by DeeJ’s subsequent responses than I was by Smith’s initial comments. DeeJ is probably a perfectly charming man in real life, but he has always come off as a smarmy presence on Destiny’s various message boards, often responding to widespread player concerns with a jokey, condescending tone that feels out of touch with the community. On an unrelated note though, I found his message to be more about the fact that people complain about the price, but it's already sold out, so it must not be THAT widespread of a complaint. The "the real conversation here is" was showing that Bungie (and DeeJ) KNOW what the issue is, not that he's reminding them.

As it stands, I don't think Luke handled the interview perfectly, but I also think the interview was presented terribly.

I'm not in love with the Taken King package options; it's also nothing different than what games have been doing for a decade.

I'd love a compromise, but I don't think an uninformed, click-bait-journalism-fueled pitchfork mob is the way to make it happen, especially when the collector's edition is already sold out.

I think the biggest problem is how open Bungie is. The more open they are, like creating a weekly update to try and keep everyone in the loop, the more people want, the more entitled they feel, the more they complain. There's great feedback in that, but there's also a lot of overwhelming, distracting noise. I don't know.

I'm certianly not trying to make excuses or telling anyone they don't have a right to feel a certain way. I am trying to remind us all of context. Also, not to make assumptions or point fingers, but guess who's website has generated a ton of traffic the last 24 hours? ;)

when being recorded. The way he talks doesn't translate as smoothly onto paper because he's doesn't have a PR filter. He's upfront, honest, and without things like tone to put words into context this kind of crap happens.
