I always found that 3LW (and Spare Change) jolt off to the side while firing, which is really unpleasant for a burst fire gun. The Messenger seems to be a straight line, which is much nicer (though of course at max stability it hardly moves at all anyway)

It's better than the Messenger. Same impact, more stability. No elemental of course. You can get it in the Dragon Playlist. I feel like this gun is a well kept secret!

Even with Perfect Balance on the messenger?

Yes. Pilgrim can get stability perks too, but it's base is higher.
