Ok, if you aren't going to accept one source, how about two: The 1.2.0.1 Hot Fix notes says:

Adjusted the power curve for Iron Banner playlists to accommodate the competitive range of power in House of Wolves

Note this is the same patch that DeeJ was talking about in the Weekly Update. It doesn't get any more clear than that.

Power still matters is the phrase here. The sentence seems to be competent innocuous to me. If he wanted to say it was different, surely he would have used words that actually implied difference, or left out the part that's exactly the same.

Right, but it was a bullet point in a section detailing new Iron Banner changes with 1.2.0.1... We already knew about the sloping curve, I think this means the curve now slopes a bit more.

Zero difference between a 33 and a 34, I think. If one exists, it's nigh insignificant. Bungie themselves made a graph at one point, actually.

Shoulder charge not one shotting if you are a 33 is a pretty significant difference.

Indeed. Also, from the latest Weekly Update:

Power still matters, and it matters a little more as the delta between two players increases

So it might even be that 33s are at even more of a disadvantage than they were not too long ago.

But still noticeable. Tripmines Are less likely to 1-shot too, though theyv'e been behaving weirdly in ToO.

Sometimes I, a 33 will not die to a 34s Triine, but my 34 Friends will die to a 32s, even at full health.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way in ToO when I was going to have a guy dead on contact who was guarding my two dead team mates. Too bad my surprise at not killing the guy lasted longer than it took for him to kill me...

My first attempt at ToO was as a 33, and we went flawless. Almost no difference between 33 and 34 in terms of ToO power levels. Again, it's totally doable.

Just shoulder charge. You can't one shot a 34 as a 33.

I get what you're saying, but I don't want to spend my armor cores getting sub-optimal armor. Then I'll just have to get MORE armor cores later when the stuff I actually want shows up. I'm comfortable with waiting until the right stuff is available. I just wish there was some PvE way (other than nightfall, which isn't anywhere near reliable) to get etheric light in the meantime. It seems silly to have to use one particular piece of armor in order to progress.

You can beat 32 PoE and get armor cores to buy 42 armor. You could have two by now. Add that to an exotic and you only need one etheric light to get 34. I have 34s now and will be happy to grind out poe 34s with you. I think our schedules overlap usually... late night pacific time.

I have a total of 1 character/build for which that stat distribution actually works. For everyone else, I'm holding my armor cores and waiting until Tuesday to see what Variks has. I really hope the stats/perks on Variks' gear turn out to be random, so that I can get something more sensible down the road.

And even for that 1 character, who now has 2 PoE pieces and an ascended exotic, I need 1 etheric light to ascend the last piece. And where, as someone who doesn't enjoy PvP, am I supposed to have gotten that? From the 6 nightfalls I've run? Nope, not from there, apparently.

The hilarious part is that it's possible once the weekly reset happens, and I (maybe) finally get the boots I need, the 34 might rotate to something I could have completed as a 33.
