I don't think anything but RNGesus figures in here. I was simply questioning the 'most likely' part of Mid7night's instructions. :)

What I meant is that, unless I'm mistaken, gold-rimmed Exotics used to give more than a single shard (maybe some other item instead of a shard, but a second item nonetheless). Since non-ascended Exotics are technically not fully leveled, maybe that's why you only got the second item through RNGesus.

Not sure how you mean; Exotics didn't use to be able to be ascended, and I didn't break up any new, fully- ascended Exotics.

I broke up 4 fully-leveled exotics (they were yellow-rimmed before HoW dropped, and they had a green bar, denoting a lack of a second shard, after the drop). The first one gave me 2 shards - the other three gave me one each.

Buy Exotic engrams first; decrypt and see if you get anything you already have; Free(ish) E.Shards!

Also; if you get anything you already have, but it has a better roll - Sharding your existing fully-upgraded Exotic will most likely dismantle into TWO E.Shards.

Heh... 'most likely'. Dismantled 4 fully-upgraded older Exotics, got a total of 5 shards. :(

Funny you mention that... I did the math this morning on what it would take to ascend all my exotics via purchasing exotic shards from squid face. 336 strange coins or 13 weeks of three character Weekly Heroics, only 7 weeks if my used up my existing stockpile. Only being a release date filthy casual I only have a bank of ~150 SC. It's still gonna take a while to upgrade them all.

The best part about is that it seems totally fair, and a nice goal to work toward.

New exotics are already Ascended, saving you a shard, although I'm sure nobody's exactly short on coins to buy shards at the moment...
