I picked up a Timur's Lash during the last Iron Banner and spent around 30 motes of light rerolling it and still didn't come up with a combination I liked so I vaulted it. Fast forward to yesterday, I spent another 30-40 motes of light reforging yet again. I finally gave up when I was at 8 motes left and have this roll now.

I have spent around 60-70 motes of light on this weapon that I am mildly happy with. It's not the end of the world, but that's around 3 weeks of playing worth of motes of light. Just crazy to think about how much time was wasted on getting this roll.

Yeah, the reason Syphax's music choices for his vid were so joyous was due to the fact that he had a great roll originally and ruined it trying to get unflinching, then spent another 30 rolls to get it back to the original.

I personally think 60-70 motes is a small price. You get the right roll and it's the difference between a vicious primary option versus a gun that you never use. I'd love a Timur with Steadyhand/Spray and Play/Field Scout/Third Eye; I'd probably spend 100 motes to get it because I'd use it forever.

what does custom optics even do anyway?

Increased zoom on whatever scope you have equipped.

I had previously maxed leveled this from the last Iron Banner and had the following:

Since I have the ARC LDR with Armor piercing x3 I decided to give it another go and hope for a solar/void with the roll I got. The only option I missed that I wanted was Perfect Balance.

It's good, situationally it's better than a purchased LDR because of the loadout, but a randomly rolled LDR with these perks would be overall a better gun.

I completely agree on this. It'll be my PvP sniper along with Preadyth's Revenge for the foreseeable future. There are much better snipers for PvE.

Note that I'm keeping my "The supremacy" around on the (very slim) chance that I'll be able to upgrade it once the queen's bounty event returns.

I miss that one. I finally dismantled it when I got the new Vendor LDRs as it fulfilled the same role in my armory.

What has been your best rolls on IB weapons?

I spent an unreasonable amount of motes last IB on my efrideets spear. I really was looking for a solar sniper to replace my "The Supremacy", which was an amazing sniper I used all the time, up until I bought an LDR. (Note that The Supremacy has almost identical stats to the LDR, but caps out at 300, which is an obvious disadvantage) The goal here was armor piercing rounds, solar and "good perks". I got a lot of good rolls that were hard to pass on that were not solar... Here's what I finally settled with:

- Solar
- Ambush SLH25 (also Longview SLR10 and Sightsys SLS20, but ambus is much better I think)
- Spray and play
- Armor Piercing Rounds (also High Caliber rounds and custom optics... what does custom optics even do anyway?)
- Clown Cartridge

I really like it overall. The rate of fire is slightly lower than desired (I could get 4 shots off with an LDR in the time I can get 3 off with this gun), which is the major drawback. It does have better impact and spray and pray + clown cartridge goes a long way to mitigate the 3 round clip. Overall it's good for things like the nexus fight and atheon where you're not dancing much and can really shoot it over and over. The clip size is more of a liability in fights like winter's run where you want to pound that guy in the head over and over, or the swordbearer while fighting crota, to keep them more stationary.

Throw in some gunslinger incendiary grenades and it's just wallbangs all day, every day. You gonna cause so much rage.
